Reminders from the Office
Medical Danger – Anaphylaxis and Look-a-Like Products to Peanut Butter
Please review the enclosed letter regarding the HCDSB’s obligation under Sabrina’s Law, Medical Conditions Policy, and Anaphylaxis Procedure to provide a minimized allergen environment to protect students with life threatening allergies to peanut/tree nut protein and look-a-like products to Peanut Butter.
Kiss ‘n’ Ride Safety
Please drive carefully and with consideration for the safety of students who are being dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon in the Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane. Do not park in the Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane. Please drive in the direction of the flow of traffic through the exit lanes and in the parking lot lanes. On rainy days and as the weather changes to winter, please be patient and drive with extra caution to ensure everyone is safe.
Punctuality and Attendance
Please ensure students arrive on time for school and are picked up promptly at dismissal. When students are late for school, they are missing important entrance routines and greetings that help students transition into their day, feel welcome, and safe at school. Thank you for picking up your children promptly at the end of day and for notifying the office if there is a change to the end of day routines.
If a student reaches 15 days absence, then an Attendance letter goes home to parents/guardians. Once 20 days of absences are reached, then a referral goes to the Attendance Counsellor and Social Work at the Board office. Every school day matters!
Please use School Messenger to report your child’s absence and reason for absence. Parents who do not report their child’s absence will receive an automated notification starting at 10:30 a.m. If the office cannot verify a student’s absence and all contacts have been exhausted, then Safe Arrival is triggered which will include a call to the Community Liaison Officer and a visit to your home by the police to verify a child’s safety. Thank you for working in partnership with the school to keep students engaged and safe.
Progress Reports and Parent/Teacher Virtual Interviews
Progress Reports go home on Wednesday, November 24. Parent Teacher Virtual interviews are scheduled for Thursday evening, November 25 and Friday, November 26. Friday is a PA Day – there is no school for students.
COVID-19 Self-Assessment and Screening Tool
Parents are reminded to continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 at home each day and on weekends and to complete the COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool for each student before sending them to school, as per Public Health requirements to keep everyone safe and healthy.
You can help keep our school community safe by continuing to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, and completing the COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool each morning.
Daylight Savings Time 2021 – “Fall Back”
Please remember the change to Daylights Savings time on Sunday, November 7. Re-set your clocks back by an hour in time for the return to school on Monday, November 8. Safe drive on Monday!
Veterans’ Week November 5 – 11
Staff and students will pause to remember members of the armed forces, past and present, their service and sacrifice for our country. Mr. Callaghan’s students will lead the school community in a Remembrance Service and Liturgy to pray for peace on Thursday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. The link to the recorded presentation will be posted on the OLV YouTube channel and emailed to the parent community. Poppies are available in the office for students. Any donation amount is accepted.
