June Report Cards

Due to technical difficulties with School Messenger, the Board re-issued the Term 2 Report Cards on Thursday, June 25, 2020. Please use your child(ren)’s OEN, including the dashes, to retrieve the June Report Card. Hardcopies will be filed in the OSRs when school resumes. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

September Class Placements

On September 4, 2020, parents will be able to access information about their child(ren)’s class placement for the 2020 – 2021 school year using your child(ren)’s OEN which is located at the top of the Report card. Every effort has been made to create balanced class lists of diverse learners with consideration given to positive peer relationships and parent requests.

Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS)

Please go to HSTS’ website and enter your home address to determine the bus route and stop for your child(ren) for the next school year. Parents may choose to opt out of bussing for the coming school year. Please notify HSTS if you decide to not send your child(ren) to school on the school bus.

Every year parents must apply for a courtesy seat on HSTS buses and there are no guarantees from one year to the next. Please note due to Covid-19 requirements to maintain social distancing, courtesy seating is currently on hold; however, parents can still submit an online application. HSTS will notify parents in the fall if there are available courtesy seats.

Aller-ject in Canada

Aller-ject is available in Canada for students with life-threatening allergies. The HCDSB Student Plan of Care for Anaphylaxis and documentation for all medical conditions will be updated accordingly for the 2020 – 2021 school year.

Covid-19 and Ministry Updates

Over the summer vacation, please continue to check the Board website for Covid-19 and Ministry of Education updates for the September start up. The Board is working in partnership with the Ministries of Education and Health and the Public Health Task Force to make informed decisions in the best interests of students, families and staff. We are committed to continuing to improve our instructional practices in the classroom and online to benefit student learning, achievement, mental health and well-being. Thank you for being partners with us as we worked together to overcome the challenges and to celebrate the successes of this school year.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2020 – whether the return to school plan is Distance Learning, students physically returning to the school building, or a blend of both models.

If the Ministry decides the school year will start up in September as usual, then the teachers will meet their students outside on the blacktop at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 with the class lists to do daily attendance. JK/SK students will have staggered entrance dates and one-to-one scheduled visits with the classroom educators. The Kindergarten letters will go home to families closer to the September start up.

Family Photo Collage

Thank you to the families who participated in the Family Photo Collage project and to Mrs. Puffer for her time to collate and curate the photos. In the interests of privacy, I will email the attachment to OLV families.

OLV Catholic School Council

Thank you to Mrs. Bartlett, Co-Chair; Mrs. Tomaino, Co-Chair; Mrs. Price, Secretary; Mrs. Ottembrajt, Treasurer; Mrs. Price, Secretary; Mr. Bily, OAPCE and Parish Rep; Mrs. Smyth, Mrs. Di Fruscia, and Mrs. Pipe for your service to the OLV school community. We look forward to resuming our work as a Catholic School Council in the next school year. Parents who may be interested in joining the School Council are invited to contact the main office in September to pick up a nomination form.

Thank you to the many parent volunteers who took time to support the OLV Catholic School Council initiatives, to accompany classroom teachers on school trips, to serve healthy snacks, to drive students to games, to read to students, and so much more! Your dedication has made our community a faith-centered, safe, and inclusive learning environment for everyone.

May you have a safe, healthy, and restful summer break with your families!
