Student Insurance

The Halton Catholic District School Board does not provide accident insurance coverage for student injuries that occur on school premises or during school activities. Since accidents can happen, and some injuries result in medical, dental or other expenses that are not covered by provincial health care or employer group plans, as a parent, you may wish to consider purchasing student accident insurance. Student accident insurance can provide you with financial piece of mind against the possible expenses that can be incurred if a child is injured at school.

The Board makes available an Accident and Life Insurance Program for students exclusively through Old Republic/Reliable Life Insurance Company. Participation is voluntary and the costs for the program are paid by the parent or guardian. The program offers a variety of plans and benefits, which can be tailored to suit your needs. The coverage provided by the policy is comprehensive and reasonably priced ($8.00 to $32.00 per year depending on plan chosen).

The insurance agreement is between the parent or guardian and the insurance company. If you wish to subscribe or for more information, please visit: or call 1-800-463-KIDS (5437).

Smoke-Free Ontario Act

Smoking is prohibited in public schools, private schools and on public school property.  Under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, the prohibition on smoking is extended to include private school property, including private school property that is specifically annexed/in use by the private school (e.g. a playground and sports field).

Our Lady of Victory Tips

Conflict resolution is an important topic with kids and adults alike.  Kids need to learn early how to deal positively with conflict so that they can learn to work out their differences.   Here a few ideas to help your child with conflict resolution:

  1. Conflict is not always bad – it can teach kids coping social skills such as active listening, empathy and compromise
  2. Show by Example – if you illustrate positive conflict-resolution skills within your family at home, they will more likely emulate these themselves
  3. Seek help from professionals when needed – don’t be afraid to reach out for support from counselors and therapists if needed
  4. Teach kids to take responsibility for their actions – it is an important aspect of understanding where the other person is coming from and taking control of their behaviour.

Just a gentle reminder to remember to call in your child’s absence.  Safe arrival of your child is our main priority.
