Weekly Update for January 17

Returning to In-Person Learning

  • We are so excited to welcome everyone back to in-person learning on Monday! We hope that you are looking forward to it too, and thank you again for all you have done to keep the learning going while we were online.
  • We know that the board will be communicating more information with you about the return to school, but we have a few reminders for you as well:
  • Completing the COVID-19 School Screening Tool Daily
    • As we did in September, all families must share each child’s successful COVID-19 school screening results with the school daily before the child can attend school. You may share them by emailing them directly to your child’s teacher, showing the results to the staff member greeting the children when they arrive (Kindergarten only), or completing the paper attestation form. You can download a copy of the form below or we will send a hard copy home with your child on January 17.
    • Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, distancing, and staying home when sick are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.
    • Please note that the Ministry of Education screening tool states: Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. We know that this can be challenging when you need to arrange child care, but we need you to follow the directions on the school screening tool and keep your children home if they are ill.
    • We will be calling you to pick up your child if he or she develops symptoms while at school.
  • Coming to School Prepared for the Day
    • Please remember to send your child to school every day prepared for learning. In addition to learning materials such as the student agenda, please ensure that your child has a water bottle, indoor shoes, a lunch, and snacks for the day.
    • As well, please send your child with warm clothing such as hats, mittens, boots, and snowpants. Even with the cold weather we will be going outside as much as possible, and we want our students to be dressed appropriately to enjoy the outdoors.
    • More information about the board’s inclement weather policy and how we make decisions about whether the children can go out or need to stay inside can be found on the board website here: https://www.hcdsb.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/VI-39-Inclement-Weather-Safety.pdf
  • Completing Attendance
    • Please continue to let us know if your child will be absent from school through SchoolMessenger, and letting the office and your child’s teacher know if he or she needs to leave early for an appointment.
  • Returning Borrowed School Devices
    • If you borrowed a device from the school for online learning, please return it with your child or by dropping it off at the front of the school on Monday.
    • If your child is returning the device, please remind him or her to bring it to the library at the start of the day.

Change to Learning Environment Form Now Open – Closes TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT

  • In response to the Province’s temporary move to Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopening in order to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, the HCDSB has revised its original 2021-2022 Return to School Plan to provide greater flexibility for families. We will now offer two (2) opportunities for families to request a change to learning environment for elementary students.
  • The form to request a change from in-person to online learning or vice versa is now open until Friday, January 14 at 11:59 pm and can be accessed at the link below. The requested change will come into effect on January 24, or once schools reopen for in-person instruction if the period of remote learning is extended.
  • For more information about the process, including the timelines around the second opportunity to change your child’s learning environment, please see our school website here: https://elem.hcdsb.org/ourladyofpeace/2022/01/change-to-learning-environment-for-elementary-students-request-form-now-open/

Update on Pizza Lunches

  • Pending any other direction from Halton Public Health or our school board, we will delay the start of our pizza lunches until Wednesday, February 2. We will keep you posted about any changes to the start of the program.
  • If you missed the deadline to order pizza, we will open SchoolCashOnline next week for a few days to allow you to place your order.
