Weekly Update for November 8

Daily School Screening

  • Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 school screening for each child every day. Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, distancing, and staying home when sick are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.
  • Please note that the Ministry of Education screening tool states: Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. We know that this can be challenging when you need to arrange child care, but we appreciate your keeping your children home if they are ill.

  • Our Remembrance Day Liturgy on Thursday will be virtual. Please email Mrs. Lupton for the link if you would like to participate. Students who participate in Guiding and Scouting and would like to wear their uniforms to school that day instead of their school uniforms are welcome to do so.
  • Poppy stickers will be available for all students. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion for the poppies are gratefully accepted and students can drop them in the box in the office during the week.

  • The Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation (HCCF) supports HCDSB students in need with basic necessities (i.e. food and clothing) & with school activities that have a fee (i.e. team or club fees).
  • HCCF needs our help so they can continue to say “yes” to helping HCDSB students with financial barriers to learning.
  • Please consider donating to the foundation by attending the Evening with Bishop Crosby on Wednesday, November 17.

Sacraments for Students in Grades 2 and 7 – Dates Confirmed

  • Grade 2
    • Our students in Grade 2 will celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Families will be able to sign up for a time on the St. Michael Parish website.
    • They will celebrate their First Communion on Saturday, April 30. Mr. Amatiello’s class will have their First Communion at 11:00 am and Ms. Zador’s class at 1:00 pm.
  • Grade 7
    • Our students in Grade 7 will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Ms. DeFazio’s students will have their Confirmation at 10:15 am and Ms. Carrabetta and Mrs. Kozak’s students will have theirs at noon.
  • Families who wish their children to receive these Sacraments during this school year should register on the parish website as soon as possible if they have not yet done so.
  • As well, families of students in Grades 3 and 8 who did not receive these Sacraments last year may also register at the links below. Please note that due to numbers their dates for the Sacraments may be different than the ones above.

Safety Reminders

  • Please remember to send your children to school with all necessary items such as water bottles, lunches, snacks, hats, mittens, and indoor shoes. We need to minimize visitors to the school during the day.
  • Please continue to be patient and courteous and to follow the rules of our parking lot at pick up and drop off. If you must drive your child to school, please follow the traffic flow rules in place at the east and west sides of the school. Stop or park only in designated spaces and not in the kiss and ride or along the fence. Together we can help to keep our school community safe!

Vacation Requests

  • We know that families may be eager to travel and visit family. While we certainly understand, please note that you will need to complete an Extended Absence Form (available from the office) and that any absence longer than 15 consecutive days may result in your child being demitted from our register and having to re-enroll upon your return.
  • Families should also consider any quarantine requirements when planning for their children to be absent from school.
  • While educators are happy to help support student learning, please note that they are not required to provide your child with work for the length of the absence.
