Weekly Update for November 22

Daily School Screening

  • Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 school screening for each child every day. Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, distancing, and staying home when sick are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.
  • Please note that the Ministry of Education screening tool states: Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. We know that this can be challenging when you need to arrange child care, but we appreciate your keeping your children home if they are ill.

OAPCE Webinars

  • The Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education (OAPCE) is hosting a free series of webinars for parents and guardians. The first one is on Saturday, November 20. To register, please see the link on their webpage here: https://www.oapce.org/

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week – Wear Pink Thursday

  • The third week in November is the designated Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week in Ontario.
  • From November 21-27, 2021, the Halton Catholic District School Board will join school boards around the province in enhancing awareness and understanding about bullying, and the factors that contribute to safe, caring and inclusive schools.
  • This week, and every week, we work to ensure that our school is safe and welcoming for all, cultivating a positive sense of belonging and well-being.
  • One of the ways we will mark the week is by wearing pink on Thursday to show solidarity with those who have been bullied and commit to treating others with dignity, kindness, and respect every day. Students wearing pink do not have to be in uniform.

Reports and Booking Interviews Nov 25 and 26 – Link CLOSES Tuesday

  • In keeping with the reporting procedures for the Halton Catholic District School Board, you will be receiving the Progress Report Card for your child in Grades 1 to 8, and the Initial Communication of Learning for your child in Kindergarten, on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 via email. We are now organizing our annual interviews for the parents and guardians of all students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.
  • This year’s interviews will be held on Thursday, November 25 from 4 pm to 8:30 pm and Friday, November 26 from 8:30 am to noon. Interviews will be 10 minutes in length and will be conducted virtually.
  • To reduce paper and to make the process easier for families, we will be booking interviews online this year. The deadline to book an interview is Tuesday, November 23 at 11 pm. For more information, please see the instructions in the letter shared through email last Friday.

  • If your child missed picture day, or you would like to have the photos retaken, there will be an opportunity for photo retakes on Wednesday morning.
  • If your child received the picture package with proofs from our picture day in October, please return it to the photographer on Wednesday.

No School for Students on Friday

  • As a result of the time allotted for interviews on Friday, there will be no school for students that day. We will look forward to seeing students back in the building on Monday, November 29.

Human Rights and Equity Advisory Council – Call for Applicants

  • Our HCDSB schools are committed to creating safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environments that support student achievement and well-being in our Catholic schools. Human Rights and Equity are guiding values that are consistent both with Catholic Social Teaching, reaffirming the dignity of every individual, as well as the Ontario Human Rights Code, which safeguards students and staff from discrimination based on the protected grounds.
  • The Board’s Equity and Inclusive Education Steering Committee is in the process of forming a Human Rights and Equity Advisory Council (HREAC) to engage community stakeholders including parents, students and community organizations.
  • The purpose of the HREAC is to assist in identifying community needs and to provide advice and guidance on addressing systemic barriers and supporting historically underserved members of the 2SLGBTQ+, racialized and Black communities in the HCDSB.
  • Parents/guardians and students in Grades 7-12 interested in serving on the HREAC are invited to submit an application online through the HREAC Membership Application Form by December 31st.

Vacation Requests

  • We know that families may be eager to travel and visit family. While we certainly understand, please note that you will need to complete an Extended Absence Form (available from the office) and that any absence longer than 15 consecutive days may result in your child being demitted from our register and having to re-enroll upon your return.
  • Families should also consider any quarantine requirements when planning for their children to be absent from school.
  • While educators are happy to help support student learning, please note that they are not required to provide your child with work for the length of the absence.
