Weekly Update for November 15

Daily School Screening

  • Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 school screening for each child every day. Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, distancing, and staying home when sick are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.
  • Please note that the Ministry of Education screening tool states: Anyone who is sick or has any symptoms of illness, including those not listed in this screening tool, should stay home and seek assessment from their health care provider if needed. We know that this can be challenging when you need to arrange child care, but we appreciate your keeping your children home if they are ill.

Pizza Volunteers

  • Our fabulous Catholic School Council has been working to get our pizza days running again. Due to our current public health guidelines, we will need additional volunteers this year to ensure that the pizza is distributed quickly, safely, and accurately. We are looking for volunteers who could commit to the pizza program weekly, and could be at the school between 11:15 am and 1:00 pm. To help us with our planning, we are asking that anyone interested in volunteering complete the short form below by 6 pm on Friday, November 12.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Dore-Anderson, and thank you in advance for considering volunteering.
  • Pizza Volunteer Survey

Thank you!

  • Thank you to our Grade 2 students and staff for leading us in a wonderful Remembrance Day Liturgy on Thursday, and thank you to those family members who were able to attend virtually.
  • Congratulations to our Ontario Catholic School Graduate ExpectationResponsible Citizen Award Recipients. Our focus for November and December will be on being Discerning Believers.

Volleyball Tryouts Next Week

  • Interested students in Grades 6-8 are invited to try out for our girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams.
  • Students picked up permission packages from their coaches today and will need to return all paperwork before coming to tryouts.
  • We encourage families to review the email sent out earlier today for more information, and to contact the coaches if you have any questions.
  • We look forward to a safe and fun volleyball season!

  • If you would like to purchase your child’s school photos, the orders are due on Wednesday. You can pay by returning the form and a cheque to the school, or following the information on the picture package and ordering them directly online,
  • Retakes will be Wednesday, November 24.

  • Grade 2
    • Our students in Grade 2 will celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Families will be able to sign up for a time on the St. Michael Parish website.
    • They will celebrate their First Communion on Saturday, April 30. Mr. Amatiello’s class will have their First Communion at 11:00 am and Ms. Zador’s class at 1:00 pm.

Safety Reminders

  • Please remember to send your children to school with all necessary items such as water bottles, lunches, snacks, hats, mittens, and indoor shoes. We need to minimize visitors to the school during the day.
  • Please continue to be patient and courteous and to follow the rules of our parking lot at pick up and drop off. If you must drive your child to school, please follow the traffic flow rules in place at the east and west sides of the school. Stop or park only in designated spaces and not in the kiss and ride or along the fence. Together we can help to keep our school community safe!

Vacation Requests

  • We know that families may be eager to travel and visit family. While we certainly understand, please note that you will need to complete an Extended Absence Form (available from the office) and that any absence longer than 15 consecutive days may result in your child being demitted from our register and having to re-enroll upon your return.
  • Families should also consider any quarantine requirements when planning for their children to be absent from school.
  • While educators are happy to help support student learning, please note that they are not required to provide your child with work for the length of the absence.

OAPCE Webinars

  • The Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education (OAPCE) is hosting a free series of webinars for parents and guardians. The first one is on Saturday, November 20. To register, please see the link on their webpage here: https://www.oapce.org/
