Weekly Update for September 27

Daily School Screening

  • Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 school screening for each child every day.
  • Please note that even when you don’t need to send us the results, you still need to complete the screening every day before your child comes to school. Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, and distancing are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.

Grade 8s Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation Saturday

  • Please keep our Grade 8 students, and their sponsors, families, teachers, and priests, in your prayers this weekend. They are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday at St. Michael’s Parish.

Virtual Open House Tuesday!

  • Please mark Tuesday, September 28 from 6 – 7 pm in your calendars to participate in our virtual open house!
  • Join our community in prayer and view a presentation about some of the changes inside and outside of the school building this year, then meet your children’s educators and view individual presentations to find out more about what the learning in your child’s classroom will look like. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, and to share your hopes for your children this year.
  • The introductory session will be conducted through Teams, and the link will be shared through email at 5:30 pm on the day of the open house. Educators will provide more information about how to access their presentations on their digital platforms.
  • We are looking forward to seeing you then!

Update on Catholic School Council

  • Thank you to everyone who volunteered to serve on council this year. In accordance with our by-laws, we will not need to hold an election this year. Congratulations to council members Paula Banfield, Camille Bardwell, Amber Bastien, Patricia Boucher, Stephanie Dolan, Aloka Fernandes, Stephanie Krutzmann, Megan McCartney, Ashley McInnes, Bernard Omojola, Anabella Perrone, and Nitya Silveira!
  • Our first meeting will be on Monday, October 4 at 6:30 pm. We will meet virtually through Teams. If you would like to see an item on the agenda, or attend the meeting, please email Mrs. Dore-Anderson at dorer@hcdsb.org by Wednesday, September 29 at 4 pm.

Rowan’s Law – Concussion Awareness Day – Wednesday

  • On Wednesday, the Halton Catholic District School Board will be marking Rowan’s Law Day to raise awareness about concussions.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Thursday – Wear Orange

  • We are asking students to wear something orange to school on Thursday to participate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day) and stand in solidarity and reconciliation with residential school survivors. As long as a student is wearing orange he or she may be out of uniform today.

Agendas

  • Students in Grades 1-8 have been issued agendas. Agendas are intended to provide families and staff with a means of regular daily communication. In an effort to reduce costs, we have changed our agenda supplier this year. We would ask for your help in defraying costs by paying $2 for the agenda using SchoolCashOnline by Friday, October 1.

Emergency Drills

  • As we do every year, we will be completing our emergency safety drills. We will follow the advice of both the Fire Marshall and public health in executing our drills this year to help keep everyone safe.

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders

  • We appreciate your consideration for other families during pick up and drop off. Please help us keep everyone safe by:
    • stopping only in the designated zones
    • leaving the school property as soon as you have completed your pick up or drop off
    • keeping your distance from other families
    • keeping your dog off school property (unless it is a service animal)
    • listening to directions from the staff
    • being patient and courteous with one another!
  • If the weather is inclement in the morning, beginning at 8:30 am students in Grades 1-4 will enter the building through Door 5 (rear doors of the school on the east side) and students in Grades 5-8 will enter the building through Door 9 (rear doors of the school on the west side). All students will proceed directly to their classrooms, clean their hands and unpack, and sit in their desks until school begins.

Lunch Supervisor – Hiring

  • We are looking for lunch supervisors to support our staff and look after our students daily over the lunch hour (11:50 am -12:50 pm). Candidates need experience with children and a vulnerable sector police check to apply. Please contact the office if you are interested in applying.
