Weekly Update for September 20

Daily School Screening

  • Thank you for your continued diligence in completing the COVID-19 school screening for each child every day. As of Monday, September 20, you DO NOT need to send us the daily results.
  • Please note that even when you don’t need to send us the results, you still need to complete the screening every day before your child comes to school. Completing the screening, wearing masks, maintaining proper hand hygiene, and distancing are all ways we can help to keep the children in our care and our community safe.

Learning Commons Visits

  • Mrs. Winegarden is happy to announce that the learning commons (library) will be open for classroom visits beginning this week! Students will be able to browse and take books out as well as enjoy some read alouds in person. We will review the social distancing rules in the learning commons with each class.
  • Thank you to everyone who returned school resources this week. Please have one more look around the house to see if you have any library books to return!

Code of Conduct Virtual Assemblies

  • Each year we have Code of Conduct assemblies to review our rules and expectations with the students. We focus on how we can demonstrate respect for ourselves, for one another, and for the school building and community. This past week’s assemblies were virtual so that students could hear and participate from the safety of their classrooms. They asked lots of great questions and showed that they understood what it meant to be responsible Catholic citizens in our school community.
  • If you would like to review the school’s rules and Code of Conduct for yourself, they have been updated on the school website here: https://elem.hcdsb.org/ourladyofpeace/code-of-conduct/
  • We will also be adhering to our Distance and Digital Code of Conduct for any of our online learning opportunities this year.

Agendas

  • Students in Grades 1-8 have been issued agendas. Agendas are intended to provide families and staff with a means of regular daily communication. In an effort to reduce costs, we have changed our agenda supplier this year. We would ask for your help in defraying costs by paying $2 for the agenda using SchoolCashOnline by Friday, October 1.

Emergency Drills

  • As we do every year, we will be completing our emergency safety drills. We will follow the advice of both the Fire Marshall and public health in executing our drills this year to help keep everyone safe. We will begin with the first of our three fall fire drills this week.

Save the Date for our Virtual Open House!

  • Please mark Tuesday, September 28 from 6 – 7 pm in your calendars to participate in our virtual open house!
  • Join our community in prayer and view a presentation about some of the changes inside and outside of the school building this year, then meet your children’s educators and view individual presentations to find out more about what the learning in your child’s classroom will look like. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, and to share your hopes for your children this year.
  • The introductory session will be conducted through Teams, and the link will be shared through email at 5:30 pm on the day of the open house. Educators will provide more information about how to access their presentations on their digital platforms next week.
  • We are looking forward to seeing you then!

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders

  • We appreciate your consideration for other families during pick up and drop off. Please help us keep everyone safe by:
    • stopping only in the designated zones
    • leaving the school property as soon as you have completed your pick up or drop off
    • keeping your distance from other families
    • keeping your dog off school property (unless it is a service animal)
    • listening to directions from the staff
    • being patient and courteous with one another!

Lunch Supervisor – Hiring

  • We are looking for a lunch supervisor to support our staff and look after our students daily over the lunch hour (11:50 am -12:50 pm). Candidates need experience with children and a vulnerable sector police check to apply. Please contact the office if you are interested in applying.
