Weekly Update for June 21

Happy Father’s Day!

  • We wish all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and caregivers in our school community a very Happy Father’s Day this Sunday!

Pop Up Vaccination Clinic This Weekend

  • There will be a pop up vaccination clinic at St. Thomas Aquinas June 19 and 20 for people age 12+ to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19. For more information please see the attached letter.

Closing School Liturgy Tuesday

  • Our final school liturgy will be Tuesday, June 22 at 10:45 am. To allow our community to come together in prayer, we will be sharing a link to a Teams meeting where the whole school can be present. We would encourage families to join the liturgy using one device (if possible) so that you can be together – and help our technology work smoothly!
  • Educators will share the link with students on their learning platforms Tuesday morning.

Term 2 Reports Home Wednesday

  • Students in Gr 1-8 will receive their Term 2 Report Cards, and our Kindergarten students will receive their Communication of Learning electronically on Wednesday. We are proud of our students and how they have demonstrated their learning in many different contexts this year!
  • Families will receive the reports through email from the SchoolMessenger system.
  • As our Director of Education, Pat Daly, shared in his email last week, most elementary students’ report cards will contain marks but no comments this term. Please note:
    • If your child’s teacher is a Long Term Occasional Teacher (i.e. not a permanent teacher with the Board), your child’s report card will include both grade marks and comments.
    • If your child is in Kindergarten, one comment (sentence) will be included in each frame of the report.
    • If your child is evaluated on an alternative report card (which does not include a grade mark), the report will include one comment (sentence) for each section of the report.
  • As always, if you have any questions about your child’s learning, please contact their teacher directly.

HCDSB Seeking Feedback on its Strategic Plan – Survey Closes Wednesday

Grade 8 Graduation Drive-Through Thursday

  • We are looking forward to celebrating our graduates at their drive-through celebration on Thursday, June 24 between 6 and 9 pm.
  • Families should watch for updates and for the schedule for the drive-through in their email early next week, and are reminded that we will need to continue to follow current gathering, masking, and distancing protocols.
  • Please note that the link to the virtual celebration will be shared with all families through email at the end of the evening.

Drop Off Reminders

  • Thank you to everyone who was able to pick up their children’s belongings this week.
  • Our drop off days for technology and textbooks will be Monday, June 28 and Tuesday, June 29 between 9 am and 3 pm.
  • If you are finishing school earlier, please contact Mrs. Dore-Anderson to make different arrangements so we can be sure to return your child’s belongings and have school resources returned.
  • I would ask that you please review the schedule and information below carefully, and, when coming to school, remember to:
    • Complete the COVID-19 school screening at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ to ensure that you are able to come to the school site. Please note that you will be asked to confirm that you have completed the screening when you arrive, and you will not be allowed to pick up your child’s belongings without having completed it.
    • Follow all public health guidelines about masking and distancing, particularly while in line.
    • Avoid congregating by going immediately to the designated school entrances and leaving school property as soon as you have picked up or dropped off your child’s belongings.
    • For more information, please see the attached letter, and contact the school office if you have any questions.

We All Belong in Our Catholic School

  • We will continue to explore the themes of inclusion, the inherent dignity of the human person, how we are wonderfully made in God’s image, and how we can show solidarity with members of our community who identify as 2SLBGTQ+ in age-appropriate ways that are guided by our Catholic faith throughout the month of June.
  • June is also National Indigenous History Month, and an opportunity for us to learn more about the history and diversity of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples in Canada, as well as to reflect on their current challenges and successes as living and vibrant peoples. We are dedicated to deepening our learning about past and present injustices such as residential schools and furthering our commitment to truth, reconciliation and healing.

Sacrament Update – Grade 2s

  • With the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions there have been some changes for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion:
    • First Reconciliation will be on Saturday, July 31. Multiple times are available. Students will attend in groups of 15 and may be accompanied by only one parent or guardian.
    • First Communion will now be celebrated on two Saturdays: Saturday August 7 and Saturday August 14. There will be two masses on each of those days and students will be in groups of approximately 20 with only four family members allowed to attend.
  • Please go to the St. Michael Parish website to register as soon as possible. We have also included the direct link here: https://www.stmichael-oakville.org/first-holy-communion

Last Day of School

  • Educators will prepare asynchronous learning activities for June 28 and 29. There will be no live Teams meetings on these days.
  • The last day of school is June 29. If your child will be finishing the school year earlier than June 29, please let the office know.
