Weekly Update for September 28

Catholic School Council 2020-2021 Nominations

  • Our Catholic School Council is established for the purposes of developing, encouraging, and promoting activities which will enhance the quality of school programs and improve levels of student achievement. The Catholic School Council provides insight to the Principal, and where appropriate to the School Board, on issues outlined by the Ministry of Education and Training. You are invited to please consider a candidacy for the position of Parent Representative. In accordance with Ministry Regulations 612/613, the following timelines will be followed regarding Council elections:
  • Friday, October 2, 2020:  We invite you to consider nominating yourself or another parent candidate and submit the nomination form to the Principal by 4 pm.  Nomination forms are available from the office or on our school website at the bottom of this post. If you prefer to complete a paper copy of the form, you may come to the school office between 8 am and 4 pm this week. A member of our office staff will bring it outside to you where you may complete and return it.
  • Monday, October 5, 2020:  If an election is necessary, names of candidates and a one-page information sheet, if available, will be posted in on the front doors of the school and on our school website.
  • Friday, October 9, 2020: Catholic School Council elections will take place if needed. Elections will be held online, and parents and guardians will be asked to verify their vote with the email they have on file at the school. If necessary, a paper option will also be made available. More information about the election and the process will be shared once we know if it will be necessary.
  • Tuesday, October 13, 2020:  The names of the Catholic School Council members will be announced via posting on the front doors of the school and on our website.

Change to Learning Environment Request Form

  • On Thursday, September 24, you should have received an email sent on behalf of our Director, Pat Daly, explaining the process for requesting a change to your child’s learning environment – either from face-to-face learning to online learning, or from online learning back to face-to-face learning. If you would like to request a change for your child, the form will be open until Thursday, October 1 at midnight. If you have any questions about the process or the learning environments, please refer to the email or contact Mrs. Dore-Anderson at dorer@hcdsb.org.

Orange Shirt Day Wednesday

  • We are asking students to wear something orange to school on Wednesday to participate in Orange Shirt Day and stand in solidarity and reconciliation with residential school survivors. As long as a student is wearing orange he or she may be out of uniform today.

Uniform Update

  • Our uniform supplier, ISW, has been updating us about its progress in filling backorders, and is pleased to report that it should have them cleared in the next few weeks.
  • While we have been understanding around the delays in having student uniform items arrive, please note that we are a uniform school and it is expected that all students from Kindergarten – Grade 8 wear the uniform daily. (Younger students who may need a change of clothes in case of accidents may keep an extra set of non-uniform clothing at school to change into if needed.)
  • We would expect all students to be in full uniform by Thanksgiving.
  • You can contact the school uniform provider at www.iswuniforms.com or by calling 905 844-1414.

Agendas

  • Students in Grades 1-6 have been issued agendas. Agendas are intended to provide families and staff with a means of regular daily communication. The cost of the agenda is $8 and we would ask you to please pay using SchoolCashOnline by the end of the day today.

Emergency Drills

  • As we do every year, we will be completing our emergency safety drills. We will follow the advice of both the Fire Marshall and public health in executing our drills this year to help keep everyone safe, and we are pleased to report that we completed the first of our three fall fire drills today.

Virtual Open House!
  • While we weren’t able to have our Corn Roast to start our year, we will still come together as a school community with our first Virtual Open House on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 pm! Join our community in prayer and view a presentation about some of the changes inside and outside of the school building this year, then meet your children’s educators and view individual presentations to find out more about what the learning in your child’s classroom will look like. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, and to share your hopes for your children this year.
  • If you have questions you would like to ask before the evening so that we can address them in our presentations, you can ask them via the link here until Tuesday, October 27 at 9 am: OLP Open House Questions
  • The introductory session will be conducted through Teams, and the link will be shared through email at 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Educators will provide more information about how to access their presentations on their digital platforms.
  • We are looking forward to seeing you then!
