Weekly Update for May 4

Class Placement 2020-2021 – Due Monday

  • Please note that the deadline for letting Mrs. Dore-Anderson know through email at dorer@hcdsb.org about any extenuating circumstances that may affect your child’s class placement for the 2020-2021 school year is Monday, May 4, 2020. Please review the letter sent via email on Monday, April 20 and attached below for more information about the class placement process and criteria.
  • Families will be receiving a separate email with more information about how we will be addressing friends requests virtually this week.

Catholic Education Week – Igniting Hope

  • This year’s Catholic Education Week theme, Igniting Hope, is particularly relevant and inspiring to us! Our staff prayed together with a special liturgy on Friday, and our educators are looking forward to celebrating the theme with their students in their virtual learning environments this week.
  • Bishop Crosby has recorded a special video message to mark the week, and it can be viewed on the Diocese of Hamilton website here: https://hamiltondiocese.com/catholic-education-week/
  • Bishop Crosby will also be live streaming a special Mass from St. Patrick’s Parish in Hamilton on Friday, May 8 at 11 am. You can watch the Mass on the St. Patrick’s website here: https://stpats.online.church/

HCDSB Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Week

  • In addition to celebrating Catholic Education Week this week, our school board is also marking Mental Health Awareness Week with other schools and boards across the province.
  • For a calendar of the themes for each day, and a list of the resources available to us in Halton, please see the documents below. Watch our school Twitter feed for special announcements each day, and follow the hashtags #HCDSBSelfCare and #HCDSBMentalHealthWeek.

Special Mass for our Grade 2 Students

  • Please keep our Grade 2 students, their families, and their teachers in your prayers this weekend as they were looking forward to celebrating First Holy Communion on Saturday.
  • On Saturday, May 9, at 11:00 a.m, Mary Mother of God Church will be live-streaming a special mass for all of our Grade 2 students who are waiting to receive their First Holy Communion. We would like to thank Father Isaac for including our students in this special Mass. You can access the Mass on Mary Mother of God’s website here: https://mmogp.ca/livestream
  • Father Jerzy has also posted a message for the Grade 2s on his blog: https://missionofstmichael.com/

Update on OLP Clubs

  • We were so excited to see students participating in our virtual clubs this week! Seeing their smiling faces raised our spirits, and we hope that the clubs helped them feel connected to the school and to one another.
  • The calendar for this week’s clubs is attached below. We have worked to connect some of this week’s activities to our Catholic Education Week themes as well.
  • Remember that children can choose to try one or all of the activities in a given week, and, with your help, they may share to our school Twitter feed @OLPhcdsb here: https://twitter.com/OLPhcdsb. You can use the hashtags #FunClubsHCDSB and #TogetherApartHCDSB to connect with others.
  • No Twitter account? No problem! You can share your results with Mrs. Belobradic or Mrs. Baxter by emailing them at belobradice@hcdsb.org or baxterj@hcdsb.org. They will share them through their Twitter feeds. Mrs. Dore-Anderson may even post a selection to the school website! (Please note that anything you share through email may be posted to the school Twitter account and website as well.)
  • If you don’t want your children to share online, that’s OK too. You can still have fun by trying the activities as a family!

Together We Feed Kids

  • Families’ circumstances have changed drastically over the last few months, and agencies in Halton have been working with our school board to help families who find themselves in need. Please see the information below about sources of food and meals in Halton, and please reach out to Mrs. Dore-Anderson at dorer@hcdsb.org if we can help support your family. We are here for you even though the school building is closed!
