Weekly Update for April 27

Monday’s PA Day CANCELLED

  • In light of the current school closures the professional Activity (P.A.) Day originally scheduled for Monday, April 27, 2020 has been CANCELLED. This means that Monday will revert to an instructional day, and your child(ren)’s educators will be available on that day to provide distance instruction as they have for the past few weeks.

Grade 7 School-based Vaccine Clinics – Cancelled for 2019-2020 School Year

  • The Halton Region Public Health department has made the decision to CANCEL the third round of Grade 7 school-based vaccine clinics for the 2019-2020 school year, due to the school closures related to COVID-19.
  • This round would have included the second and final doses for both the Hepatitis B and HPV 9 vaccines, offered to Grade 7 students who received the first doses of these vaccines in the fall of 2019. Halton Region Public Health will reschedule these clinics for the 2020-2021 school year and will let families know once the clinic rescheduled dates are finalized.
  • Parents and guardians can contact their healthcare providers directly if they wish to have their child receive this vaccine through their family doctor. Please report any vaccines your child receives outside of school by visiting: halton.ca/immunize or by calling 311.

New to Kindergarten in 2020-2021

  • Online registrations for Kindergarten are still being accepted even though the school is closed. Parents and guardians interested in registering can follow the process through the school website here: https://elem.hcdsb.org/ourladyofpeace/2020/04/part-1-of-kindergarten-registration-available-online/
  • We will not be rescheduling our New to Kindergarten Orientation evening originally planned for April 16 at this time. However, we will be sending our Kindergarten parents the updated presentation from the session this week, and we will be sure to post it on the school webpage as well once it has been shared.

Class Placement 2020-2021

  • While we are focused on providing your children with teacher-led distance learning, we are also working on planning for next year as we would do if schools were open. Consequently, I would ask you to please review the letter sent via email on Monday, April 20 for information about the process and goals of class placement for the 2020-2021 school year. This information about class placement and development pertains to all students currently in Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten – Grade 7.  Please note that the deadline for letting me know about any extenuating circumstances that may affect your child’s class placement through email at dorer@hcdsb.org is Monday, May 4, 2020

  • As well, St. Michael’s now has a “virtual community”. Please email singforjoytoday@gmail.com to get on the list.
  • New Children’s Worship bulletins are also being shared weekly in the Children’s Liturgy space on the church website.
  • Like us, Father Jerzy is following the advice of public health officials to keep us all safe and healthy. The parish will update us with any news for our Grade 2 families on both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.
