Grade 8 Graduation Photos – Monday

  • Our Grade 8s will be having their grad photos taken on the stage on Monday. Students are reminded to bring a white dress shirt and tie as well as their order forms and payment if they wish to order a composite photo.

Labour Negotiations Update

  • The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has announced that the potential one-day, full withdrawal of services (walkout) in all HCDSB schools on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 has been CANCELLED. All HCDSB schools will be OPEN to students on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. OECTA has announced that the series of rotating strikes across the province next week have been cancelled, however, negotiations will continue until a provincial settlement has been reached. Pancakes POSTPONED

  • Our Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras celebration has been postponed. We will look forward to a community celebration of spring with pancakes after Easter!

Gr 7 & 8 Hockey Tournament and Girls’ Basketball Tournament BACK ON TUESDAY

  • Both tournaments will go ahead as originally scheduled. Coaches will have more information for their players on Monday.

Ash Wednesday

  • Please join us for our Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday at 1 pm in the gym.

Lenten Initiatives

During this time of Lent, Our Lady of Peace is continuing our tradition of supporting others and bringing awareness to worthy causes in our community.  This year we will be participating in the following initiatives and inviting students to donate a twoonie to each cause.

  • Friday, February 28 – Wear pink for anti-bullying awareness and donate $2 to Halton Women’s Place
  • Friday, March 13 – Wear blue and yellow today and donate $2 to support Down Syndrome Awareness!  March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day because it is the 21st day of the 3rd month which symbolizes the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which leads to Down Syndrome.
  • Thursday, March 26 – Wear purple and donate $2 today to support Epilepsy Awareness!
  • Thursday, April 2 – Wear blue and donate $2 today to support Autism Awareness!
  • Wednesday, April 8 – Wear your favourite hat and donate $2 to support Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer!

OLP Catholic School Council Movie Day!

  • Our OLP Catholic School Council invites you to a community movie day on Saturday, March 7! “Onward” and “Call of the Wild” will be screening in two theatres at Film.ca at 171 Speers Road at 10 am. Tickets and popcorn and drink combos are $8 each and are available through SchoolCashOnline or through a cheque made out to the school. No physical tickets will be issued but your purchase will be checked at your entry to the theatre which will be open at 9:30 am. Please note that this is a caregiver-supervised event. Hope to see you there!

Regular Attendance and Illnesses

  • As part of encouraging regular school attendance for all our students, you may have received a letter with your child’s report card inviting you to speak to your child and/or your child’s teacher about the importance of attending school daily.

As you may know, we are anticipating that the school might be closed on Tuesday, February 25 as a result of the ongoing labour negotiations. Consequently, we will be rescheduling our pancake celebration until after Easter. We would like to thank in advance the Catholic School Council members and volunteers who will give so generously of their time and talents to make the occasion special, and we will look forward to pancakes in April!
