Parent Update #15 December 13-17

Week 3 of Advent

The theme of the third week of Advent is Joy. We light the PINK candle: thecandle of joy, also known as the “shepherd candle”. It is in this third week of advent that we rejoice for the coming King. The shepherds experienced joy at the good news of the birth of the Messiah. Week Three focuses on finding true joy in Christ’s birth this Christmas.

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Thank You!!!

Thank you so much for the incredible generosity towards our Christmas Toy Drive, Food Drive, and True North Aid charitable work this Advent. We appreciate your donations and we know that your contributions will make a world of difference for the grateful recipients.

Rapid Antigen Test Kits for In-Person Learners

On Monday, December 13th, your child will be taking home a Rapid Antigen Screening Kit for voluntary use over the Christmas holiday.

The rapid antigen screening kits have been provided by the Government of Ontario for every student who attends in-person learning at a publicly funded school.  These kits may be used by any student, regardless of their vaccination status, however, should only be used when a child is asymptomatic (does not have any symptoms of COVID-19) and has not had any exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Please note, your child’s participation in this rapid antigen screening is voluntary and is not a required action for return to school after the Christmas break. Thank you for your ongoing support as we work closely with the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health to help keep our community safe and healthy for all.

A reminder to all families that Friday December 17th is an Early Dismissal day at 1:20pm. We wish you all a joyous and blessed Christmas break! We hope that you can enjoy this Christmas with family and friends in a safe and peaceful manner.

School will be closed from December 18th – January 2nd. We will return to school in the New Year on Monday January 3rd.

MindUP for students

We are continuing with Lesson 5 this week! Through a variety of exercises, they will become more attune to observing details by slowing down and focusing their attention.  You can build on these skills of observation by encouraging your child/children to apply their curiosity and perceptiveness to their academic work or their extracurricular activities.

Take some time to focus in on what your family is observing out in your community.  Make observations about common things you see in your community such as “How many red cars do you see?”

Important Government Announcement this past week

We wanted to share some important information that was released in a press conference with Ontario’s Minister of Health and Minister of Education regarding COVID-19 health and safety updates for schools.

Below are some highlights from the announcement, as well as additional information we received in a memo from the Ministry of Education.

Updates for All Elementary and Secondary Schools

  • Before the Christmas break, each student in Ontario will receive a Rapid Antigen Test home kit, which will contain five (5) tests for voluntary screening at home over the holidays.
  • As we did for the first two weeks of the school year, when we return to school in the new year, confirmation of daily screening of COVID-19 will be required for all students, staff and visitors during the first two (2) weeks.

Winter Break Travel
With the holiday season approaching, it is anticipated that many staff, students and families will choose to make travel plans over the break. We would like to remind families to follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements
