Weekly Update: May 24-28
During this month of May, we continue to reach out and pray to Mary.
Mary, mother of Jesus, give me your heart so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate, so full of love and humility, that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life, love Him as you loved Him, and serve Him as you served Him, in the distressing disguise of the poorest of the poor. Amen – Prayer to Mary by St. Teresa of Calcutta
We would like to thank our parents, students and staff for a great week of virtual learning. We recognize that this may be difficult for some families but please know that we appreciate all the effort in making this a positive learning experience for our students.
We wish all of you a wonderful long weekend and look forward to “seeing” our students again online on Tuesday, May 25.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT – VIRTUAL BINGO
On Thursday, May 27th, we will be hosting a Family Bingo Night from 6-7. You would have received an email from the school on Friday afternoon with registration information. Registration closes on Thursday at noon. All registrants will receive a TEAMs invite for this night as well as the link for a virtual Bingo card. Each child in your household will require a device to participate in the Bingo Night. We look forward to a fun evening for all.
We All Belong in Our Catholic School
“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8.
At Our Lady of Fatima School, we believe that we are all created in the image and likeness of God, and we honour the dignity in each person by treating one another with care, compassion and respect.
We are committed to nurturing a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all of our students – regardless of their race, gender identity, gender expression, disability, sex, sexual orientation, creed, or age. As a school we will continue doing all we can to ensure that everyone in our community experience a positive sense of belonging and well-being.
LITERACY AND NUMERACY SUMMER LEARNING – GRADES 6-8
Please see the attached flyer if you are interested for summer learning for your child(ren) in grades 6-8. Registration closes on June 24th.
During this period of remote learning, we continue to promote regular attendance, as it is important for students to remain engaged in their learning so they can stay on top of the curriculum and feel more connected to their peers while our school is closed.
As noted in PPM 164: Requirements for Remote Learning, schools are required to take daily student attendance throughout the period of remote learning.
Attendance will be taken twice daily: once in the morning and again after lunch. If your child is not able to attend or participate in remote learning on any given day, please report his or her absence, as you typically would during in-person learning through the School Messenger Safe Arrival System: https://www.hcdsb.org/parents/report-your-childs-absence/.
We will be following our usual process of contacting parents and guardians when student absences are not reported.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Now, more than ever, ongoing communication between home and school is key to your child’s success and well-being.
Asian Heritage Month
May is the designated Asian Heritage Month in Canada.
Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated across Canada since the 1990s. In May 2002, the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Heritage Month.
Over the last two centuries, immigrants have journeyed to Canada from East Asia, Southern Asia, Western and Southeast Asia, bringing our society a rich cultural heritage representing many languages, ethnicities and religious traditions.
This month, HCDSB recognizes the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to the growth and prosperity of our country.
Join us as we celebrate Asian Heritage Month virtually with multiple activities and resources to enjoy at home with your family! Please see the flyer for more details.
