Weekly Update: November 30  – December 4

Great Giver of all that is, show us how much you have received through your abundant generosity.  Satisfy our restless hearts with the assurance of Your love for us, that we will grow to desire Your potter’s hands shaping and molding us.  Amen.

It was another great week at OLF as we head into the first week of Advent.  It was so nice to see so many families this past Saturday.  We look forward to another great week at OLF.

Food Drive

We thank our school community for your extremely generous donations for our food drive yesterday.  We were able to fill 20 laundry baskets which we will be dropping off this week to a local food share to help support families in Halton.  “How marvellous it would be if, at the end of the day, each of us could say: today I have performed at act of charity towards others” – Pope Francis.

Toy Drive

Our Toy Drive began on Saturday as well and will continue to run until December 11th. This initiative will also support our local families in Milton as well as our Indigenous brothers and sisters in Northern Ontario through the charity of True North Aid.  We had a huge response yesterday with many donations and we appreciate all the families who were able to bring toys, puzzles and board games for various age groups.  You can continue to drop off toys each morning and after school.  There will be a bin (look for the big, wrapped present) set up outside the front doors for donations.  We will also accept monetary donations through school cash online.  We thank you in advance for your generosity during this Advent season for families in need.

SAVE THE DATE – Thursday, December 3rd

Due to COVID, Advent activities at the school will look at little different.  One of the OLF traditions is the Advent Tree Lighting and Family Activity Night.  This tradition will continue but Virtually.  You will receive a link in which you will be able to watch our annual Tree Lighting and participate in a variety of activities with your family.  More information will be sent to you shortly.  Don’t forget to Tweet your photos.  @OLFMilton #OLFAdvent2020

School Staff, along with our Parent representatives of our Re-opening committee worked hard on a plan for use of lockers in the school through guidance of HCDSB Re-opening Plan. You would have received an email last week indicating the steps involved to ensure the safety of staff and students regarding locker use.

We want to remind families to continue to follow our school COVID protocols in regard to food drop off at the school.  We want to ensure the safety of all staff and students in the school and limiting these food items will help to ensure that cross-contamination from outside the school community is kept to a minimum. Thank you in advance for your support in keeping OLF safe!

Virtual Scholastic Book Fair

The fun and excitement of a Scholastic Book Fair continues at OLF! To adapt to our changing needs, Scholastic has developed a Virtual Book Fair to provide an opportunity for our students and families to experience the joy of reading together.  Our Scholastic Virtual Book Fair will continue until December 1.

What a great opportunity to purchase some amazing Christmas gifts, while also promoting literacy and helping our school library!

Daily Screening

Thank you to all parents/guardians for performing daily screening of their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms before leaving for school.  We appreciate you helping our school in preventing the spread of COVID-19.  Please note: This screening tool has been updated once again as of October 1st, as the Ministry of Health determine various changes in symptoms of COVID-19
