Weekly Update: March 9-13
Thank you for another great week at OLF. We look forward to another great week leading up to March Break at OLF. During Lent we offer up our prayer:
Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race Jesus Christ our Saviour, as a model of humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man And giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You By following His example of suffering, And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen
A new flu-like coronavirus has been reported in several countries around the world. You can find accurate updates and detailed information on symptoms, prevention, and spread of the virus on the following websites:
- World Health Organization (WHO)
- Public Health Agency of Canada
Symptoms of COVID-19 infection include fever or cough or breathing difficulty. At this time, there is no specific treatment for coronavirus infection and no vaccine. Most people with novel coronavirus infection will recover on their own.
How to Prevent the Spread of Respiratory Viruses
The best way to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses including COVID-19 is to:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
- Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; if no tissue is available, then sneeze or cough into the sleeve or arm;
- Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces regularly; and
- Stay home if ill until your symptoms resolve
For those students in Grade 8. Grad proofs have gone home. Orders are due on Tuesday, March 24th. Purchases for Grad Pictures can be made online through the Edge Imaging website or orders can be handed to the main office with payment by cheque only.
Currently we have two separate initiatives ongoing to help the homeless. We continue to collect clean milk bags to help support. As was mentioned at our Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation assembly last week, we will begin our Lenten Initiative. Our grade 4 classes are asking for us to support Team Nobody’s. Team Nobody’s is an organization which supports the homeless with necessary items. This year we will focus on socks. Therefore, we are asking for donations of new socks. There will be a box in the front foyer for the socks. We will collect socks until April 8th. Thank you in advance for supporting this worthy initiative.
HCDSB 50th Anniversary (Pilgrimage of the Cross)
Last Wednesday we received the cross. This cross will be moving from school to school within our board spending one week at each school. This will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Halton Catholic District School Board. Classes will continue to visit the cross in our library for prayer and/or meditation.
Crazy Socks for Downs Syndrome
On Friday, March 13th we encourage all staff and students to wear Crazy Socks. This initiative is in support and to bring recognition to those students with Downs Syndrome.
Bus Loading Zone
Please note that the driveway in front of the school is designated for buses and emergency vehicles. Any parents picking up or dropping off their child should use the parking lots on the West and East sides of the school, or the parking on the street in front of the school. Please refrain from using the Bus Loading Zone for picking up and dropping off.
School Start Time
Students continue to arrive late to school. We are an 8:20 am start time. It is very important for the students to arrive to school on time to build those habits and routines that are very important in the morning. Arriving late disrupts that routine. Please see the attachment for some guidelines and tips.
On behalf of the staff at OLF, we wish to extend a safe and joyful March Break to each of our families. If you are travelling stay safe and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday, March 23rd.
Please see the attached Parish Bulletin for information.
Wishing you a wonderful week – the Staff of Our Lady of Fatima CES
