Weekly Update: February 17-21
Thank you for another great week at OLF. We hope that you can enjoy some quality family time on Family Day on Monday. We look forward to another great week at OLF.
I Read Canadian Day is a new nationwide initiative that celebrates the richness, diversity and breadth of Canadian literature. Taking place for the first time ever on February 19, 2020, this celebration will empower families, schools, libraries, bookstores and organizations to host activities and events by reading Canadian books for just fifteen minutes. For more information, visit ireadcanadian.ca/day. Help get the word out on social media by following @IReadCanadian and using the hashtag #IReadCanadian.
Teacher Job Action
As you have already heard, all 4 major teacher unions will be on strike on Friday, February 21st. Therefore, there will be no school for students on this day.
First Term Report Cards
Report cards will go home with your child(ren) on Wednesday, February 19th. Due to administrative job action, the report cards will include marks but will not provide teacher comments in the subject and learning skills areas. An exception is the report card for Kindergarten students which will include a one-sentence comment per frame.
While the report card will not provide the level of information that is normally reported, please be assured that it does provide an accurate assessment of your child’s progress thus far.
On Tuesday, February 25th our Catholic School Council and parent volunteers we will be helping us to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a pancake breakfast for our students!
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the setup and serving of pancakes. If you are interested in volunteering and have your police check completed and on file at the school, please use the following link to indicate the time you are available. Pancake Tuesday Survey
As well, if your child has a gluten or dairy allergy and would like pancakes on this day, it is necessary that you INFORM THE CLASSROOM TEACHER BY TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH.
