Weekly Update – December 3-7

Celebrating Advent as a Family

One of the most popular ways to celebrate Advent is with an Advent wreath or Advent candle holders. Four candles (three purple and one pink), are used to count down the weeks until Christmas. Each Sunday of Advent one of the candles is lit and special prayers are said. Each Sunday of Advent has a particular theme leading up to the birth of Christ. The first Sunday, December 2nd, of Advent symbolizes Hope with the “Prophet’s Candle” reminding us that Jesus is coming. We light a purple candle on the wreath.

Advent Liturgy and Tree Lighting Celebration

Our annual OLF Advent Liturgy and Tree Lighting Celebration  is this Thursday December 6th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the school gymnasium. Come and join our celebration beginning with a Liturgy led by Father Jim, followed by Christmas crafts, tree lighting and refreshments for all!

Lunch Pails

A New Session for Lunch Pails is starting on Monday – Please ensure that you send a lunch for your child if you have NOT ordered for this next session.

Parking Considerations

Please adhere to the signs posted at the exits of the parking lot with indicate that there are no left turns during the hours of 8:00-8:40 am and 2:30-3:30 pm as per Milton bylaw #12-81. This will ensure an easy flow of traffic out of the parking lot for parents picking up and dropping of children at the school. We thank you in advance for continuing to be cautious, patient and courteous to other in the parking lot.

Winter is here!

Please ensure your child is dressed each day to play outside at recess. Students are outside for all regular outside activities when it is warmer than -15°C. When temperatures range between -15°C to -20°C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20-minute intervals, once temperatures are colder than -20°C students must remain inside.

Inclement Weather Reminder

Please check out the HCDSB website for the Inclement Weather procedure & info on school emergency closures & bus cancellations. When we have inclement weather days, Grade 1-8 students will enter the school at 8:05 am through doors 5 and 6 from the playground and Kindergarten students will enter through the Kindergarten doors and go directly to their classrooms.
