What is a School Improvement Learning Cycle (SILC)?

A school improvement learning cycle is a road map that sets out the changes a school needs to make in order to improve student achievement based on a variety of data.

Why is a school improvement learning cycle needed?

The School Improvement Learning Cycle (SILC) helps principals, educators, and Catholic School Councils answer the following questions:

  • What are our strengths as a Catholic school community?
  • What are our next steps for improving student achievement?
  • How will we know it’s working?

The SIPSA outlines our commitment to ongoing monitoring of student achievement and well-being with current, reliable information about how well students are performing. With this knowledge, educators and parents are better able to respond to the needs of all learners.

How does the SIPSA enhance learning?

Our SIPSA is guided by recommendations from the Ministry of Education and reflects the priorities identified in the Halton Catholic District School Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the Board Improvement Plan, and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations.

The SIPSA is a valuable plan that enhances the way curriculum is delivered, creating a positive Catholic learning environment, and supports parental involvement in their child’s learning at school and at home.
