“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God.”
This weekend we light the second candle on the Advent Wreath. Peace with others begins as we understand that God has called us to be peacemakers in our world. Is there somewhere in your own world where you can be a peacemaker this Christmas? Don’t miss the blessing God promises in your life as you respond to His call to be a peacemaker in your own circle. We can help bring peace to our world one heart at a time.
The prayer of St. Francis calls us to be peacemakers
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; and Where there is sadness, joy… Divine Master; Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
The LC Angel Tree:
Advent is a time of preparation for the Christmas season. This year we will continue to help others to prepare their Christmas celebrations by collecting gift cards to support those in our Parish and School Community, through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. The SVDP Society serves many families in need within our parish boundary.
The Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectation A Discerning Believer teaches students to develop attitudes and values founded on Catholic social teaching and acts to promote social responsibility, human solidarity, and the common good.
We ask you to please consider donating a gift card to one of the stores listed and return it to school by December 10th. An angel will be added to the Angel tree in our front foyer when a donation is made.
-Loblaws/Superstore -No Frills -Food Basics -Walmart -Shoppers Drug Mart
*we kindly ask that you write the amount on the gift card
We thank you for making “The Angel Tree” a successful part of our school’s preparations. It is a beautiful opportunity for our children to learn about the gifts of sharing and generosity.
We are also asking families to add a special daily prayer of protection for all the families SSVP serves: Mother of Jesus, be their protector and defender against all that is harmful or evil. Bring their needs before our Father, that they may be surrounded by God’s Holy Angels, and give them the grace to conquer every danger and overcome all that would threaten their health and well-being. Amen.
A sincere thank you is extended for your generosity and support.
Dressing for the Weather:
The cold weather has arrived! We will be going outside as much as possible, and we want our students to be dressed appropriately to enjoy the outdoors.
Please remember to send your children with warm clothing such as hats, mittens, boots, and snow pants. Students may be in a zone that is located on the field. Proper footwear (boots) should be worn. Please remember to send indoor shoes if you haven’t already done so.
Thank you for your support.
As the Christmas Season draws near, we know that more and more families are shopping on-line this year. Lumen Christi has recently teamed up with “Flip-give”. Flip-give is an app/ website that receives a commission when used and shares the profits with the school. Many sports teams have used this service and several HCDSB schools are beginning to use this program, and it has proven to be quite successful. Please consider downloading the app for Flip-give, inputting our code, and supporting the school, each time you make an on-line purchase.
We earn cash back on every purchase we make all year long! All you have to do is shop anytime with the brands you already love, like Home Depot, Walmart, Sport Chek, Indigo, Old Navy, Apple, Esso, and Loblaws. No more going door-to-door selling chocolate bars – it’s completely virtual and contactless.
Join our team now and you’ll get a $5 bonus the first time you shop: https://flipgive.app.link/teams/join?joincode=FPJPVK

Please reach out if you have any questions.
We Are Excited to Welcome Your Child:

Healthy Food Bins:
We know that happy, healthy, full tummies contribute to improved attendance, increased readiness to learn and a reduction in at-risk behaviour. We also know that Student Nutrition Programs, whether they be newly imagined or traditional in design lay the foundation for healthy eating habits that last a lifetime.
HFFT firmly believes every student should have access to nutritious food to fuel their learning now and in the future.
HFFT Student Nutrition Programs ensure elementary and secondary students have universal access to healthy food at school during the school day via the Healthy Food Bin Program.
Healthy Food Bins are located in classrooms and / or key areas around the school to promote student access, appropriate physical distancing, minimized congregation and ensure safe controlled distribution.
Students are hungry for many different reasons. Snacks provided in the Healthy Food Bins are intended for ANY student that may need additional food to sustain them through a busy school day.
Thank you to our Parent Volunteers for shopping for the snack food bin items and packaging them into food bins. Your support with this initiative is greatly appreciated!

Students must demonstrate digital citizenship through the appropriate use of technology, as outlined in the school’s code of conduct.
In the interest of student safety, students are not permitted to use electronic communication devices in the school unless approved by your teacher for educational purposes. Should these devices arrive at school, they must be turned off while you are on school property and they must remain stored in your locker (backpack). Any unauthorized use of photographic, video, audio or other electronic communication devices is strictly prohibited on School Property and during school related events.
Parking Lot/ Kiss and Ride Reminders – Keeping the LC Community Safe
The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We understand that drop-offs and pick-ups can be very congested and busy with children, pedestrians, vehicles and school buses.
Specific drop-off and pick-up zone areas have been designated for the safety of your child.
A kiss and ride area has been designated on the North Side for our kindergarten students and on the South Side.
Each parent is expected to utilize the designated areas and to follow all other guidelines to assist in a smooth transition in and out of the school.
In the kiss and ride zones, parents should ensure they are driving slowly, keeping a slow and steady flow of traffic and refraining from having to back up their vehicle.
Parents should not be parking in the kiss and ride area and getting out of their car to walk their child to the playground or pick their child(ren) up after school.
If your child requires assistance walking onto the school yard, please consider parking in a designated spot and safely escorting them onto the school playground.
Please follow and obey the NO LEFT TURN sign when exiting out of the Kindergarten parking lot.
LET US ALL DO OUR PART TO KEEP LUMEN CHRISTI SAFE. Keep in mind that many people can become distracted and may not be aware of the traffic around them. By respecting designated drop-off and pick-up zones we can all help alleviate the potential for unwanted accidents. As always, please be courteous to other families and members of the public.
COVID-19 health and safety updates for schools:
Important information was released yesterday afternoon in a press conference with Ontario’s Minister of Health and Minister of Education regarding COVID-19 health and safety updates for schools.
Below are some highlights from the announcement, as well as additional information we received this afternoon in a memo from the Ministry of Education.
Updates for All Elementary and Secondary Schools
- Before the Christmas break, each student in Ontario will receive a Rapid Antigen Test home kit, which will contain five (5) tests for voluntary screening at home over the holidays.
- As we did for the first two weeks of the school year, when we return to school in the new year, confirmation of daily screening of COVID-19 will be required for all students, staff and visitors during the first two (2) weeks.
Updates for Elementary Schools Only
- For the health and safety of our school communities, all parent-teacher interviews next week will take place in a virtual format. There will be no in-person interviews. You will be hearing from your child’s school with next steps if you had scheduled an in-person interview with your child’s teacher.
- Beginning January 2022, all elementary school assemblies will take place in a virtual format ONLY.
- It is anticipated that on Friday, November 19th, Health Canada will be approving COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 years old. More information will be shared with parents and guardians as it becomes available.
Update for Secondary Schools Only
- For the Winter semester starting in February 2022, secondary schools will be able to resume a regular timetable model of 4 courses a day. This is contingent on the support of local public health units.
Winter Break Travel
With the holiday season approaching, it is anticipated that many staff, students and families will choose to make travel plans over the break. We would like to remind families to follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements.
We will continue to provide updates and pertinent information to our families as it becomes available.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate through this period of time. The health and well-being of our students, staff and families continues to be our highest priority as we work closely with the Ministry of Education and Halton Region Public Health to ensure a safe school year for all.
MindUP is offering a free online module for parents of students who are taking part in the MindUp program here at Lumen Christi. Please take a look at this amazing opportunity.
Weekly Wellness Tip:
Give yourself permission to let some things go. Take a moment each morning to gather your thoughts. Make a list of all the things you have to do and want to do. Check off the two or three items that are really important to you. Let yourself entertain the idea of letting go of many of the others — or at least reducing them in some way. Many of us make our own stress by buying into the “have to’s.”
