The No Hate In Halton Campaign:
The #NoHateInHalton will be launched on Monday, November 8th in schools across the Halton Region. This is a community campaign that was developed by our Halton Regional Police Services in cooperation with the School Districts throughout our Region. We share the message that we believe that there should be #NoHateInHalton and that Halton region is diverse & that is what makes it beautiful and vibrant.
Progress Reports/Communication of Learning:
“We know that parents have an important role to play in supporting student learning. Studies show that students perform better in school if their parents or guardians are involved in their education. This is the basis for the principle that students and parents should be kept fully informed about the student’s progress.” ~ Growing Success, page 8.
Progress Reports for Gr. 1-8 and Communication of Learning for Kindergarten students will be going home on November 24, 2021. Interviews for all students are scheduled for November 25th and 26th. Interviews will be virtual this year. Please refer to the email sent out this morning for details about how to schedule an appointment.
Catholic School Council:
Our Catholic School Council will meet on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 6:30 pm. All are welcome. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for a meeting link.
Calling all Volunteers:
As we continue to plan for the 2021-2022 school year, we are looking for parent volunteers. This year, volunteers will be needed for a few initiatives we hope to get started at Lumen Christi. If you are able to help us with any of the following roles, please send an email to email@example.com
– “Hot Lunch” Program
-Halton Food for Thought Snack Bin Program (purchasing and packaging food items)
Dressing for the Weather:
The cold weather has arrived! The best way to stay warm is to dress in layers, but when layers are removed, they often get lost! Please make sure that all of your children’s clothing is clearly labeled so that if it is lost, it can be returned to them. Also, we are outside for all recesses unless the temperature drops below -20 degrees Celsius, so make sure your children have dressed appropriately with mittens, hats, scarves, boots, and snow pants if necessary! Please note any information regarding bus cancellations or school closures will be posted on the Board Website: www.HCDSB.org.

November is Indigenous Awareness Month at the Halton Catholic District School Board :
Throughout the month of November and during this school year, students and staff will acknowledge the contributions and legacy of First Nation, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada.
Days of Importance:
- Treaties Recognition Week will be celebrated November 1-7, 2021. Resources have been provided to elementary schools to educate students about the importance of treaties and how they have helped to shape the province of Ontario.
- Inuit Day, November 7, 2021. On this day we recognize the cultures, histories, contemporary contexts and rich contributions of Inuit peoples in our community and across the country.
- National Indigenous Veterans Day, November 8, 2021. This is a memorial day observed in Canada in recognition of Indigenous contributions to military service, particularly in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.
- Louis Riel Day, November 16, 2021. Louis Riel was a great Métis leader who helped his people form a government and become part of the newly created Dominion of Canada in 1870.
COVID-19 Safety Measures:
For the safety and well-being of all students and staff, parents and guardians must perform daily screening of their child(ren) for COVID-19 symptoms BEFORE leaving for school using the COVID-19 Self-Assessment.
- Check your child’s temperature to ensure they do not have a fever (temperature greater than 37.8C)
- Monitor for signs and symptoms (including atypical symptoms) of COVID-19
- Individuals experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool
The Government of Ontario daily self-screening tool can be accessed here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/
Halton Public Health Mask Guidelines Update
Halton Public Health has updated their Public Health Recommendations for Schools 2021-2022 to Version 1.4. Regarding masks that are worn by students, the following are not to be used as substitutes for a properly fitted mask:
- Face coverings such as a bandana, neck gaiter or any other material;
- Mingle masks
- Mesh masks
- Clear masks are not recommended for routine use, however, they can be used in certain situations where it would strongly aid communication, such as for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
The mask must cover the mouth, nose and chin without leaving a gap in order to limit the spread of respiratory droplets.

11th Annual HCCF Evening with Bishop Crosby – Virtual Edition:
Wed. Nov. 17, 2021 – Reception at 6:30pm; Main Event at 7:00-8:30pm
The Halton Catholic Children’s Foundation (HCCF) supports HCDSB students in need with basic necessities (i.e. food and clothing) & with school activities that have a fee (i.e. team or club fees).
“With this funding the foundation has gratefully reduced the stress impacting the family and helped to ensure access to basic needs.” – HCDSB Social Worker
HCCF needs our help so they can continue to say “yes” to helping HCDSB students with financial barriers to learning. They are looking for companies to be a sponsor at the event and for community members to purchase tickets and to donate.
It is NOT another Zoom call. We are using https://www.kumospace.com/ so you can have fun and interact with your friends. Enjoy a meal and your favourite beverage while you catch up with others.
Join the Halton Catholic Community for an entertaining experience where you can connect with your friends and hear Bishop Crosby’s stories, sense of humour and wisdom.
