Dear HRM Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for continuing to adhere to the physical distancing and mask wearing expectations while dropping off and picking up your child.

Parking lot expectations during drop-off and dismissal: Parents and Guardians are reminded to slow down when driving through the parking lot and to refrain from walking between buses by ensuring that the sidewalks are used at all times.

Communicating with your child during the school day: Parents and Guardians are reminded that to contact your child during the school day to either contact the main office or email your child’s teacher. Please refrain from texting your child on their device, as students are expected to only use electronic devices (phones, Apple watches, Fitbit, iPads, etc..) to access curriculum.

Intent of Return to School (Thanksgiving): If you wish to change your child’s learning environment by switching from remote learning to in-class instruction, or vice versa, you are asked to complete an online request form.

Important notes before you complete the online form:

  • You are asked to submit a separate form for each child.
  • You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this request. The OEN can be found on a recent report card.
  • This online request form applies to elementary students ONLY. Requests for changes in the learning environment at the secondary school level should be sent to directly to your child’s secondary school Principal.
  • This form does not apply to homeschooling. If your child is currently being homeschooled and you would like to request a change to either in-class instruction or remote learning, please contact your Family of Schools Superintendent.

NOTE: Please do not complete this form unless you want to change your child’s current learning environment – i.e. your child is currently attending in-class instruction and you want to switch to remote (online) learning in a virtual classroom.

The online form will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

Next Steps: Once the online form has closed, our staff will begin to work through the rescheduling process.

  • Parents and guardians will receive confirmation of the changes to their children’s learning environment during the week of October 13th.
  • The changes will come into effect during the week of October 19, 2020.

Kindly remember that no parents/guardians are allowed on school property before, during, or after school (8:50-3:50). Also remember that no pets are allowed on school property and on all schoolyards. Moreover, only essential visitors are allowed in the school, please contact Ms. Murad or Mrs. MacLeod if you have any questions or concerns. We ask that if your child is late or leaving early, please inform your child’s teacher and the office. Parents and guardians are asked to drop off their child at the main entrance and the student will independently enter the office to receive their late slip. When leaving early, parents and guardians are to wait outside the main doors for students to exit and meet them there.

Daily Self-Assessment of COVID-19 Symptoms: Staff are to monitor self and students for signs/symptoms of COVID-19.  All Staff and students who are experiencing new or worsening symptoms consistent with COVID- 19 must go home/stay at home and seek appropriate medical attention as required, including getting tested for COVID-19. Take the COVID-19 School Screening and follow the recommendations shared previously.  

Curriculum Night: We hope you to see you at our virtual Curriculum Night on Thursday October 1, at 6:30pm. We will have two sessions that night after the principal’s address. TEAMs invites will on Monday or Tuesday September 28/29.

Orange Shirt Day – Sept 30th: Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt (they are to wear uniform bottoms) on Wednesday, September 30th.  Orange Shirt Day annually in recognition of our indigenous community. It is an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters. Our Catholic Social Teachings call us in Solidarity with our indigenous sisters and brothers to honour the human dignity in all.

Catholic School Council: First Council Meeting:  Monday, October 5th at 6:30 pm. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, this meeting will be held virtually. Please refer to email sent on Friday September 18, 2020.

HRM school Photos: Due to the restrictions this year, all school photos are postponed until further notice. We will keep you posted on any updates regarding this.

Lost & Found: Due to the restrictions this year we will no longer have the Lost & Found box. Please ensure that you clearly label your child’s belongings and clothing along with grade so we can ensure we return any found items directly to students.

Promoting Well-Being: Hand washing Heroes- reminder to wash hands for at least 20seconds
