HRM Weekly Update- March13

“I am certain in my heart that all that I am, I have received from God.” ~ St. Patrick

Dear HRM Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for your continued support throughout this Lenten season as we are collecting backpacks for displaced Christian children in refugee camps. Providing such necessities along with a note or a drawing can certainly bring a smile to those children and help us meet Christ’s call in helping our brothers and sisters;

Thank you to all our Basketball coaches for an amazing season. Thank you to Mr. Berlingieri, Mr. Barrett, Mrs. Verissimo, Mrs. McArthur, and Miss. Moore;

Thank you to Mrs. Vis and Mrs. Alva for being our School reps for the Milton Boundary review process;

Thank you to Mrs. Flynn, Mrs. Medeiros, and their students for leading the Virtue of the Month Assembly for the month of March focusing on Kindness and Empathy;

Thank you for your participation with our Marlies Game raffle tickets, Happiness Week, Lenten Drive, and Civvies Day.

March Break – March 16-20: We wish all our families a wonderful March break. May you find time to rest, enjoy and spend quality time together.

Ontario Schools Closed March 14th to April 5th: The Minister of Education has issued a Ministerial Order to close all publicly funded schools in Ontario for two weeks following March Break. This decision was made due to the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across Ontario. In light of this directive, all HCDSB schools will be CLOSED from March 14 through April 5, 2020. Click here to read the memo from the Ministry of Education. The health and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority. The HCDSB will continue to post updates on our board website at: bit.ly/COVID-19Updates-HCDSB and share new information via email as it becomes available.

Lenten Drive: As the Lenten season approaches us, we are reminded of God’s message of love. This Lenten season we are asked once again to participate in the Lenten Drive to help the Christian refugees in the Middle East through Maryan the Divine Mercy Foundation. Backpack, Bundle of Love is a hands-on project that focuses on the true meaning of gift and altruism. The participants are asked to fill their backpack with new toys, school supplies, clothes, non-liquid hygiene items, creative crafts, and personalized letter of hope and prayer. Every backpack will be given to a displaced child suffering from war and persecution. Through your gift, you will be able to provide joy and a powerful message of hope and love to a child in need. Your support and partnership are highly valuable. Forms were sent home on Friday. If you wish for your child to participate, please send back a form with your request of how many bags and the gender you wish to sponsor. All backpacks are due back to the school by the first week of April.

ISW Update: ISW Uniforms stores will be closed on Tuesday the 17th and Wednesday the 18th of March Break 2020.  Please note, online orders can be placed at any time during this period! Regular store hours will resume on the 19th, 20th and 21st of March 2020 (Thursday to Saturday).

Promoting Well-Being – About COVID-19

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause symptoms similar to the common cold but in some cases can cause more severe respiratory illness.

In January 2020, a novel coronavirus (now named COVID-19) was identified as the cause of an outbreak of pneumonia originating in Wuhan, China.

To learn more about COVID-19, please visit ontario.ca/coronavirus.

The best way to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses including COVID-19 is to:

stay home when ill;

cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve;

wash hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand rub; and clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.

Halton Region Public Health does not recommend wearing a surgical or N95 mask for day-to-day activities.

For more information, please visit the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Novel Coronavirus infection: Symptoms and treatment webpage.

Travellers should consult the Travel Canada website for the latest health advice prior to departure.
