Passion (Palm Sunday) – Sunday, April 14th: On Palm Sunday Catholics celebrate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before His death and resurrection. The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted Him by waving palm branches and covering His path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, He begins His journey to the cross. Please join our community in commemorating this day during the different masses at the parish.

Catholic Education Week: Catholic Education week is soon approaching. The theme for this year is “Living as Joyful Disciples.” Attached is a pamphlet highlighting our Catholic Education Week activities for our HRM families. We look forward to having you visit the different classes and participate in the different activities. Hard copies of the pamphlet will be sent home after Easter with youngest and only students.CatholicEdWeekPamphlet 2019
Earth Day Activities: Monday is our “Lights Out Monday”. We challenge staff and students to try to go the whole day or half the day without turning on the lights. Not only does the Sun provide us with Vitamin D which helps improve skin and bone development, but exposure to sunlight is said to be a mood booster, improve student test scores, improve creative thinking and reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease! So let’s open up those windows today and soak in the sun while saving on energy!
HRM Running Club: This year at Holy Rosary-Milton, students will be given the opportunity to participate in a 5 km run/walk event. This recreational run is to support the LIGHT HOUSE PEER SUPPORT FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN. The focus is on how physical health effects mental health. This event will be on Sat. June 1, 2019, in south Oakville. Thank you to the staff helping with the training for the run. Forms were sent home and students have begun their training.
EQAO – Save the date! The Grade 3 and 6 students will be completing their Primary and Junior EQAO assessments. The Grade 3 students will complete their EQAO Assessment on Tuesday May 21 – Thursday May 23, 2019, while the Grade 6 students will complete their EQAO Assessment on Monday May 27- Wednesday May 29, 2019. The purpose of EQAO assessment is to promote academic excellence and improvement in student achievement throughout all schools in our province. As educators, we do prepare and respond to our EQAO results with appropriate accountability, integrity and due diligence. As we are preparing for this year’s Grade 3 and 6 EQAO Testing, we are sharing the dates of testing. We hope this will be helpful when planning any family vacations or medical appointments. We encourage all students participating in the EQAO testing to be present at school and on time.
Expected Uniform Attire: Students are to adhere to wearing the approved uniform pieces of navy blue dress-pants and white or navy blue tops with HR logo on it. Female students are also expected to wear white or blue tights when not dressed in pants. Students are asked to only wear white or navy blue undershirts. Lastly, all students are expected to wear closed toe shoes at all times.
Moving? If you are aware that you will not be returning to Holy Rosary-Milton CES in September, please let the office know. We are starting preliminary planning for next year and having the most updated information is very helpful when we look at class organization.
Promoting Well-Being – Stress
One in five children will struggle with poor mental health. Stress is often a contributing factor.
Simple steps to help calm your child
- Spend time with your children: Laughing and having fun together as a family is a great stress buster.
- Be a good role model: Show your children how to stay calm, even when you are feeling stressed.
- Maintain routines as much as possible: Morning routines get the day off to a good start while bedtime routines help kids relax. This is often the time when kids will want to chat about their day.
- Promote a healthy lifestyle: Healthy food, physical activity and adequate sleep helps the body cope more easily with stress.
- Check in with your child frequently: Ask about things that they may be worrying about.
- Limit extra curricular activities: Running from activity to activity creates stress on the whole family.
- Reserve free time: A calendar can help your family stay organized. If you are having trouble finding down time, schedule it in.
