Weekly Update – December 13 – 17 2021

Greetings Holy Rosary Families!

It is beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas! Our Tree of Hope has been so well supported and we thank our generous school community for helping those in need this Christmas Season.  With one more week before the Christmas Holidays, we have many wonderful activities, two more Advent liturgies and our Red and Green Day (non-uniform) on December 17th.  We are enjoying this festive season and the joy it is bringing to our school community.

Advent/Christmas Updates

Thank you to Miss Foderaro and her Grade 1 Class for a beautiful second week of Advent liturgy, and the message of peace. Thank you to our Safe Schools Team for the Light it Up initiative, and the interactive bulletin board inspiring kindness in our school. Thank you to our Faithful Fury for both the Salvation Army initiative, and the Candy Cane Crew for supporting The Centre. Thank to our Grade 4 Christmas Crew for daily Advent announcements. Next week we will have our final festive spirit day on Friday – and we can’t wait to see everyone’s Christmas attire! We also have the Assumption Band visiting Holy Rosary to showcase their talents.

Lighting the Advent Wreath Candles

The Advent Season is a season of waiting and of expectation. The 3rd Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday. This Sunday we celebrate that the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day is almost here. Pink is a liturgical color that is used to signify joy, as we light the single pink candle on the third Sunday of Advent. The 3rd Sunday of Advent symbolizes joy, reminding us of the joythe world celebrates at the coming birth of Jesus.

Rapid Antigen Screening Kits

During the week of Monday, December 13th to Friday, December 17th our school will be distributing Rapid Antigen Screening Kits for voluntary use over the Christmas holiday.

The rapid antigen screening kits have been provided by the Government of Ontario for every student who attends in-person learning at a publicly funded school.  These kits may be used by any student, regardless of their vaccination status, however, should only be used when a child is asymptomatic (does not have any symptoms of COVID-19) and has not had any exposure to a confirmed case of COVID-19.  Please note that participation in this student rapid antigen screening is voluntary and is not a required action for return to school after the Christmas break.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of students, families and staff as we work closely with the Ministry of Education and Halton Public Health to help keep our school community safe and healthy for all.

Early Dismissal Day – Mark your Calendar

Friday December 17th is an Early Dismissal Day – the school day ends at 1:35pm.  Buses will be leaving the school at the scheduled 1:35 pm dismissal.

Travel over the Holidays

With the holiday season almost here, many families will be traveling over the break. We would like to remind families to follow federal directives related to international travel and quarantine requirements

Winter Weather and Safety Reminders

Please ensure your child is dressed warmly each day to play outside at recess. Students are outside for all regular outside activities when it is warmer than -15°C. When temperatures range between -15°C to -20°C, students may remain outside for no longer than 20-minute intervals, if temperatures are colder than -20°C students remain inside.

As winter weather is upon us, parents are reminded to visit our website or the HCDSB website for important information and reminders regarding our Inclement Weather Procedures, Transportation Updates and the Inclement Weather Transportation Zones.

We continue to remind everyone to complete the Covid-19 Screening Tool every day to help keep our community safe.  If your child is unwell – please do not send your child to school. Please consult the Halton Region website:

https://www.halton.ca/For-Residents/Immunizations-Preventable-Disease/Diseases-Infections/New-Coronavirus for up to date information and guidance. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Current/Updated Contact Information

If there have been any recent changes to your contact information, please update your contact information with the school office. Up-to-date parent/guardian contact information is important for your child’s safety. If your child needs to be picked up, is not feeling well, or in the case that COVID-19 contact tracing needs to occur, updated information is required.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Blessings,

The Holy Rosary CE School Staff
