Nailed It! First Week of School

Thank you to our wonderful Holy Rosary families for a great first week back! We are blessed to celebrate our faith and love of learning in this special community!  A sincere thank you to our staff and students for bringing the joy back to our building! As we welcomed new staff and students – we are so pleased that everyone is learning our new routines and protocols and keeping our school safe.

Daily Self Screening:

All staff and students must self-screen every day before attending school. The province will continue to provide a screening tool for use by all school boards and may update this throughout the school year. All staff and students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19.

IMPORTANT:  Parents will be required to provide Confirmation of Daily COVID-19 Screening for their child beginning September 7th to September 17th. A Student Screening Log has been given to your child’s for you to verify their screening daily ~ please continue to sign off on this each morning before sending your child to school.

Annual Family Information / Consent Forms

Beginning this year, we will be collecting this information electronically, and are asking parents/guardians to complete the form online.

Please complete the Family Information/Consent Electronic Form on line for each child as soon as possible!  Parents are asked to complete the form, which may be accessed HERE. The form should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete. If you already submitted a consent form, no further action is required.  We thank you for providing most current and detailed information.

Important Notes Before Completing the Form:

  • If you have more than one child enrolled in an HCDSB school, please complete a separate form for each child.
  • Only one parent/guardian is required to complete a form for each child.
  • You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this form. The OEN can be found on a recent report card.
  • Please ensure you are submitting your child’s preferred name or the name you provided at registration.
  • The form can be completed using a computer, smart phone, or tablet.

Annual Curricular Physical Education Forms

Curricular Physical Education Forms will be sent home for completion for each child. Please review pages 1-3 and complete pages 4 and 5 – and kindly forward to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Thank you!

Catholic School Council Nominations

Role of Catholic School Council:  Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year.  We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to participate on the Catholic School Council this year.  The school is supported by active and interested parents who maintain the highest standards for our school community as we grow new experiences and initiatives. Please email and a nomination package will be sent to you electronically, or call the school at  905-634-3609, and a package can be sent home with your child.

If Elections are required, then the names of candidates and a one-page information biography sheet, if available, will be posted on our school website. This year, if required, elections for our 2021/2022 Catholic School Council will take place in September according to the following schedule:

Nomination Forms Due: Friday September 24th (3:00 pm)

Candidate Profiles Due (if required): Tuesday September 28th

Council Elections (if needed): Thursday September 30th

First Council Meeting: Monday October 4th at 6:30 pm

Meetings will be held “virtually” (via TEAMs). Dates & times will be posted on our school website.  All parents are welcome to attend regular Council meetings.  The meetings will begin at 6:30 pm. and will be held virtually via TEAMs online. 

Student Transportation Schedules/Updates

Access to student transportation schedules is now available through the Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) Parent Portal.  All bussing questions/concerns should go through Halton Transportation Services.

Once you have an account, you will need to add your student using their 9-digit Ontario Education Number (OEN). 

*Note: If your child has not been assigned an OEN (ie. Kindergarten student) and is eligible for transportation, you would have received a phone call between August 23 – 27 providing you with the transportation schedule. If you did not receive this phone call, please contact HSTS.

Important Transportation Services Reminders:

  • Non-medical/cloth masks or face coverings are mandatory for all students while on the bus. 
  • As the Ministry of Education recommends reducing the number of students on the bus where possible, courtesy seats will not be offered at this time for the 2021-2022 school year. 
  • Students will be assigned seats for the 2021-2022 school year. Seat assignment information will be communicated by your child’s school, and bus drivers will have copies of seating charts available for confirmation.

Drop-off and Pick-up 

For the safety of our students we kindly ask that only one parent or guardian come onto school property to drop off and pick up children. Parents and guardians are asked to remain off the school yard as our students start and end their day. At this time, parents will not be permitted to enter the school (unless there is an extenuating need, and prior approval has been obtained as per the Visitor Protocol). 

Yard Supervision

Supervision begins at 8:20 am. For the safety of your children we request that your child not be on school property until a supervisor is on duty. For safety, please see that your children leave home with ample time to ensure that they are in the schoolyard when the bell rings. Establish routines at home that will assist your child to arrive on time. Please be aware that the volume of traffic in the parking lot increases significantly just prior to the entry bell.  Students are asked to come directly to their line up area as per the new protocol. Children arriving late for school must first report to the office for a late slip.  Thank you for your support.

No Dogs on School Property

Some of our children have severe allergies and are frightened by an encounter with a dog. Our school board prohibits dogs on school property for the protection of your children as well as for the protection of your pet. Thank you for keeping our furry friends at home or off school property at drop-off and dismissal times.

Safe and Caring School

School staff will review the school routines and expectations with your child. Please know that these expectations are to help keep everyone safe and learning at school. The Code of Conduct is in the front of the student agenda for K-8. We would ask you to review and discuss this with your children during the first week of school.

Medical Peril

Please ensure you have returned the necessary forms for any medical perils (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc.) to the office along with any medication needed so we can update our files.  Please be aware that ALL HCDSB Schools strive to be a NUT FREE environment. We have students with life threatening allergies to nuts and other allergens. No peanut butter or other nut products are allowed. Please check labels before sending items in school lunches and for snacks.

Even a trace of nut oil from one child’s fingers to a desk surface can cause a deadly reaction. Please note that Wow Butter (soy product) is not allowed as well since we cannot distinguish between it and peanut butter.

Concussion Protocol

Recent research shows that a concussion can have very serious implications on a child`s cognitive and physical abilities. Parents and guardians are reminded that a comprehensive protocol, based on current research and best practices, has been developed to help parents, students, and staff prevent, recognize, and respond to a concussion. More information, including a Parent Info Sheet, can be found on the Board`s website.


We will provide a weekly update, which will be posted to the school website and emailed to families. The website will be updated frequently, where we will share information and coming events. Thank you for visiting the website and keeping current with our school info in the agenda too!

Holy Rosary Parish Updates

Our Grade 3 students and our Grade 8 students are preparing for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation, respectively. A special thank you to Monsignor Martin, Mary and our staff, for providing a ‘retreat meeting’, at the school, to help them prepare for the upcoming celebrations.
