Looking Ahead-2019/2020 Student Class Placement
Although we are only in April, preparations are now being made to ensure that our school is organized for the 2019/2020 school year. In preparation for this, teachers will be working hard on student class placements in the coming months. As you can appreciate, many hours of meetings and consultations go into the class building process to ensure the appropriate placement of all students. When building a class teachers look at the following criteria to develop heterogeneous groupings:
- Balance of ability (academic skills)
- Balance according to gender
- Learning style (how the learner learns)
- Teaching style (how the teacher teaches)
- Social blending (who gets along with whom)
- Parental input (re: learning style of student only)
Please note that parental input is important to us but must be weighted with the other criteria. Staff has already begun to receive requests from parents regarding their child’s teacher next year. Specific teacher requests cannot be considered. Rather, if necessary, parental input, in the form of a letter to the Principal should focus on the learning style of the student and the type of environment he/she best learns in. Letters should be submitted to Mrs. Choma no later than Monday, April 29th, 2019.
Remember, once again, that as a staff many discussions and reflections are put into the class building process. We will have over 420 students in September. We do our very best to develop classes that will be formed in order to maximize opportunities for each child to learn and be successful! Your trust in our professional judgment is appreciated!

Education Week will be celebrated the week of May 6-10, 2019.
This year’s theme is “Living as Joyful Disciples”. As always we will be inviting parents into the school to visit classrooms, participate in our liturgies, and walk with us on our school wide Walk with Jesus. We are excited to share with you that the staff and students of Holy Rosary Catholic School will continue to showcase the arts during our annual Lasagna Night (Thursday, May 9th). Students have been working hard to create exceptional pieces of art work for our Student Art Gallery. Our calendar of events will be sent out via email and posted on our school website later next week. Lasagna Night order forms will be posted on School Cash Online for your optional purchase shortly. Deadline for purchase is Friday, May 3rd at midnight. We look forward to seeing our families during this week.
Lenten Initiative-Care Packages for the Homeless
This is the last week to contribute to out Lenten initiative. Please consider donated to this wonderful initiative if you have not already done so. In partnership with the Young Vincentians at Holy Rosary Parish, the care packages will be delivered to homeless individuals within our community. The remainder will be donated to the Compassion Society of Halton.
- Kindergarten: men’s and women’s warm winter socks
- Grade 1: deodorant, hand lotion, chap stick
- Grade 2: small first aid items such as band-aids, polysporin, wet wipes
- Grade 3: non perishable food items such as granola bars, individual cheese and crackers, tuna and cracker kits, fruit cups etc
- Grade 4:toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
- Grade 5 & 6: gift cards for coffee/tea etc (Tim Horton’s, Mac Donald’s)
- Grade 7 & 8:gift cards for coffee/tea etc (Tim Horton’s, Mac Donald’s)
Please consider sending in a small package of from the above list with your child on or before April 11th.2019

Save the Date for our Annual Fun Fair-May 30th, 2019
Our annual fun fair will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 5:30-8 pm. We are currently in the process of organizing our themes for each classroom basket and we will be sending home the information shortly. We will be having a silent auction and welcome any and all donations. Please contact Briana Hamlet at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to donate or volunteer for the event.
