“He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy!” ~ Job 8:21

Virtual Curriculum Night

Thank you for participating in our Virtual Curriculum Night this past week!  Staff were pleased to connect with parents and to explore the curriculum the children will learn this year.

One common theme in the staff presentations was the continued use of our D2L learning platforms.  On that note, we would like to highlight that when relevant to curriculum and instruction, teachers may permit the use of any board owned or personal electronic device with the goal of developing competency with the following learning strategies:

  • Becoming a Digital Citizen
  • Understanding Technology Operations and Concepts
  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Research and Information Fluency
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making

Throughout the year, staff endeavour to teach proper on-line etiquette, digital citizenship and how to remain safe while interacting with others.  As always, we look to our parent community to be partners with their children on any virtual platform/ social media, always monitoring their use, including their posts, sites they are visiting and individuals and/or sites they are interacting with online. Please take the time to talk to your children about online safety rules and review digital citizenship responsibilities.  For more information: Digital Learning in the Catholic Classroom.

A gentle reminder that in the event of a family emergency, the appropriate method to contact your child during the school day is through the school office.

This week: Hallowe’en Spirit Day!

We look forward to celebrating Hallowe’en Spirit Day on Friday, October 30th.  Students and staff will enjoy wearing costumes, viewing the decorated doors, participating in a craft within their classrooms, and having their nut-free, individually packaged Terra Cotta treat.  A gentle reminder that we cannot accept any food or candy items at school.  Please note that, as in past years, staff have donated prizes for a raffle.  ALL students will receive a ballot and an opportunity to win!

This special fun-filled day is an alternative to our usual Dance-a-thon, and is our major fundraiser, where 100% of your donation goes directly to programs and tools for your child. Continuing to make Holy Cross a wonderful place to learn and grow is a priority for us.  This year’s fundraiser will focus on

  • continued enhancement of outdoor equipment
  • continued updating of the devices that students use
  • Virtual Assemblies for our students that will focus on well-being
  • new educational experiences or needs that may arise during this uncertain year.

Any donation amount is welcome! Even the smallest donation makes a difference, and all donation amounts are confidential.

Donating is easy! Simply login to your School Cash Online Account to select the amount you wish to donate: /True

All donations will gladly be received and throughout the month of November.   Thank you in advance for your contribution!
