reunites us to God; charity to our neighbor; and fasting, to ourselves.”
Our Lenten Project – Milk Bags for Mats!
A warm thank you to Mr. Kirtz of our Catholic School Council, for constructing the frame upon which the milk bag mats will be woven. Thank you for beginning to send in your outer milk bags: keep them coming! Our Lenten Project supports both the less fortunate, and the environment by re-using something that would be thrown out anyways. We look forward to sharing pictures of our progress.
MILKBAGSunlimited was launched by Angela Kesthely in Toronto, Ontario following the devastating Haitian Earthquake of 2010. The plastic outer shells of 4-litre milk bags – which do not disintegrate into landfills — are cut and woven into mats to be used as mattresses or, table covers for surgery use. While providing finished milk mat mattresses to people who have nothing but bare earth or cardboard to sleep on, and saving the planet from discarded, non-recyclable milk bags, the initiative also gives people the tools and the coaching, to create income opportunities.
Please send in your clean, outer shells of any 4-litre milk bags throughout the Lenten season. Special thanks to Ms. Logozzo and to the ECO team for their support in launching this initiative!
