Spirit Wear orders – last chance!

Please note that School Cash-on-line will receive your orders until midnight on February 2nd – that’s today!   The ordering options (colours, etc…) are identical to those offered before Christmas.

A note for parents of Grade 8 students: Grade 8 classes have been offered the option of a special GRAD Hoodie.  This special sweatshirt includes class signatures and options for personalization.  Samples and exact pricing information were shared with students by the provider during a brief presentation.  Please note that you are welcome to purchase both the GRAD Hoodie and the Spirit wear.  It is important to us to ensure that you have all information before making your decision.

Grad Photos on Wednesday February 5th

Grade 8 parents, please ensure that students have the appropriate top and are photo-ready!  We look forward to marking this milestone with a special photo.

They might also need some hair products or tools in case they get a little wind-blown after their Winter Walk to School…

Winter Walk to School Day: Wednesday, February 5, 2020

Winter Walk Day is celebrated by schools across Ontario on the first Wednesday of February each year.  Walking and wheeling to and from school is fun every day, so we encourage you to journey outside throughout the entire month of February.  Walking is not only good for your health; it is also good for the environment.  By walking instead of driving whenever possible, we can do our part to help reduce the quantity of car emissions released into our environment.

National Sweater Day: Thursday, February 6, 2020

Since 2010, over a million Canadians have participated in National Sweater Day at their schools, workplaces and homes.  National Sweater Day raises awareness and saves energy through turning down the school thermostat by a couple of degrees while students and teachers bundle up in cozy sweaters.  We encourage you to observe National Sweater Day in your homes as well on February 6!  By dressing more warmly and turning down the heat, we can all do our part to conserve energy.

In keeping with our environmental awareness theme this week: on February 6th, we will also welcome Halton Hills Hydro for special school-wide presentations.  These presentations aim to compliment our Science curriculum, and our Focus on Faith themes around Stewardship of the Earth, while highlighting the pressing need for global action in support of our ecosystems.

Labour Negotiations Update

Our school will be CLOSED to students on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 as a result of the recent announcement by OECTA of a province-wide, one-day full withdrawal of services.

Please note that for currently enrolled families, our YMCA will offer a full-day program, on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020.  This would be structured the way that P.A. days are typically structured, with service from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.   Parents are encouraged to contact the extended day provider at their school with their questions about program offerings:  — 416-716-6200.

Holy Cross Tips

Instagram, Snapchat… now TikToks?  Technology fads change so rapidly, it is challenging to keep up!   Please take note of a wonderful resource designed to assist parents by offering a reference Guide sheet to support your understanding and decision-making.  Some of the topics include: TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, social pressures (appearance, influencers, friends and followers and likes), gaming, Fortnite, Minecraft, Whatsapp, live streaming, suggested apps per age group, parental controls, safety tips, children’s devices, screen addiction, social media and mental health, online safety, etc.

Special thanks to our CYC, Mrs. K. Robertson, for bringing this wonderful tool to our attention!  “It takes a village to raise a child” … and we are blessed to have her in ours!
