Safe Arrival

In accordance with Board policy II-33 and procedure VI-18 Safe Arrival at School Program, your parents/guardians are asked to notify the school if you will be absent or late.  We make every effort to assure that each and every student entrusted to our care arrives safely at school each morning/afternoon. Student safety is a shared responsibility involving the home and the school working in concert for the student’s best interests. We do have a 24-hour answering service at 905-876-2386 and appreciate when parents contact the school and leave a message before 8:30 a.m. regarding their child/ren’s whereabouts, stating clearly the student’s  name, grade, teacher, reason and length (if known) of the absence.

However, when there is no message left on the school answering machine or a written letter (received in advance) stating a student’s whereabouts, we have very stringent safety guidelines and Board protocol that we must follow:

  • Calling the home phone number of the student;
  • Calling the phone number of parent’s workplace;
  • Inquiring with a sibling present at school if s/he knows a brother/sister’s whereabouts;
  • Leaving a message on an answering machine;
  • Calling the emergency contact’s phone number;
  • Failing all other options, calling the

If parents are picking up students throughout the day or during recess, we ask them to come directly to the office so that they can sign students out from school. Students who become ill during the day are to go directly to their teacher. Our policy is to get students home as soon as possible when they are ill by calling parents and asking that students be picked up. For this reason, it is important that parents keep work and emergency phone numbers current.
