Asynchronous School Days

Just a reminder that Monday, June 28, and Tuesday, June 29 are the designated days for technology and textbook drop-offs at the front entrance. Both days staff will be posting asynchronous work for students and will not be live online with classes.

Kahoot Events with our Student iDARE Committee – June 28th

Our Student iDARE Committee will be hosting a series of Kahoot Trivia Games on the asynchronous learning day Monday, June 28th. Games are anticipated to be 30 min. in length. Small prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each game and will be available for pick up on Tuesday, June 29th. 2 devices are needed to play. 1 to show the questions, another to answer them.

Picking Up Personal Belongings & Returning Tech Devices

We have been holding curbside pick-up for weeks now, and we still have many bags of items to be picked up! Please, please either have your child come by the school during lunch or pop by yourself to pick up desk/locker items and medications. Someone is available between 8-4 daily.

The following items apply for curbside pick-up:

  • Personal belongings in lockers and desks
  • Auto-injectors or other medications

A protocol has now been established for families to return any borrowed items. 

The following items apply for curbside drop-off: 

  • Technology (devices) borrowed (power cords included) (Please clean the device before returning!)
  • Special education equipment 
  • Textbooks and other learning materials
  • Library Books
  • *If passcodes/passwords/accounts have been saved on school devices please ensure they are removed prior to returning them.

Please note that all devices (including SEA equipment) will need to be returned by the end of June unless students are enrolled in a summer learning program and require the device for learning. Please email Mr. Hawken to request a summer equipment loan.

Schedule for Curbside Drop-Off on June 28th

Drop off will occur at the front of the school. Tables will be set up along the front sidewalk, and teachers will be available. ***Students will be allowed to accompany their parent(s) to say farewell to their teacher during their drop-off time. Health & safety protocols still apply, stay distanced between families while waiting your turn and wearing a mask is still mandatory for everyone while on school property! Parking is not permitted in the bus lane.

*If you require a borrowed device until June 29th, please return it to the main office before 12:00 pm. Please note, teachers are not scheduled for curbside drop-off on June 29th and will be busy with other tasks.

NOTE: Educators will provide asynchronous tasks for students on June 28th and June 29th. Special education students who are currently receiving instruction in-person will continue to do so until the last day of school – June 29th Early dismissal is at 1:30pm on Tuesday, June 29th.

September Opening Procedures: Tuesday, September 7th, 2021

We know all our families and staff have many questions about what September will look like. Please know that staff at the HCDSB central office will be working all summer in preparing plans for our return in September in consultation with Public Health and the Ministry of Education. Please continue to monitor your emails from both the HCDSB and the school for up-to-date information.

The office will open the week of August 30thThe first day of school for students in GRADES 1-8 is Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. Grade 1 – 8 students and parents are asked to proceed to the school playground where they will meet their teachers. Please note, all lists are ‘tentative’ until final numbers have been determined in September.

Kindergarten students will have a staggered entry and DO NOT begin on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021 as the Teachers and DECE’s will be taking part in interviews. Year Two (Senior Kindergarten) students begin on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. An email to Year One (Junior Kindergarten) student information will be sent out with specific information as to interview times and staggered entry dates

Determining Class Placements September 2021

Parents are asked to review the procedures for looking up their child’s class placement for September. 

Please Note: All elementary student class placements will become live on Friday, September 3rd, 2021. Parents/guardians will need their child’s OEN number which can be located at the top of the student’s report card to access their class placement.

Follow these steps to access this information:

  • Click on school tab-school listing
  • Click on Elementary school placement
  • Enter OEN, click search
  • Your child’s name, school year and placement will be displayed
