Orange Shirt Day – September 30th
Students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt and can wear civvies on Wednesday, September 30th to help raise awareness. Orange Shirt Day is celebrated annually in recognition of our indigenous community. It is an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters: “Every Child Matters.” Our Catholic Social Teachings call us in Solidarity with our indigenous sisters and brothers to honour human dignity in all. We are reminded that every person was created in God’s image and we God’s family.
Masks are required for ALL on school property for pick-up and drop-offs. Thank you the parents and guardians who continue to follow our mask expectations and model to our students the importance of social distancing. By working together, we create a safe environment for our staff, students and our community.
COVID-19 Protocol Updates
Please bookmark this link to Ontario’s COVID-19 School Screening Tool. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ This tool is easy to use and will walk you step-by-step through the process of determining whether your child should attend school and what to do next if he/she is experiencing unexplained symptoms.
Should your child experience symptoms at school, the Office Staff will call you to discuss whether or not the symptoms your child is presenting are the result of a known pre-existing condition. Only when symptoms are unusual for your child and/or unexplainable will they be required to be picked up. The required next steps will be explained to you then.
As of September 16, 2020, household members and close contacts of a symptomatic individual are no longer required to self-isolate. Siblings of a symptomatic student do not have to be sent home or miss school while awaiting test results for the symptomatic student.
* If a student with symptoms was recommended for testing by their Health Care Provider but has refused testing, he/she must self-isolate for 14 days and be symptom-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
**If an individual tests positive for COVID-19, Halton Region Public Health will notify the individual, the close contacts, and the school.
***Proof of negative tests should not be required for return to school.
NEW! It is no longer necessary to provide a Dr. note and a Plan of Care for students with Seasonal Allergies, Anxiety etc. The new school screening tool allows for parents to explain a child’s known pre-existing condition(s) that presents with symptoms similar to those on the COVID-19 symptom list.
Request Change of Learning Environment
A reminder that if you wish to change your child’s learning environment by switching from remote learning to in-class instruction, or vice versa, you are asked to complete an online request form. The survey link was emailed to families and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020.
Rowan’s Law Day – September 30th
In 2018, a law called Rowan’s Law was passed in Ontario around concussions and concussion training. Thanks to Rowan’s Law, all sports organizations and schools in Ontario will have new rules in place around concussions.
When a child experiences a blow to the head, neck or face, children should immediately stop participating in physical activities, and protocols are in place to help the parents and their child identify when it’s safe to play again.
Please remind your child to ALWAYS report to an adult if they bump their head. If they are at school we would like them to be seen by our First Aid providers – Mr. Mongiardi, Mrs. Bark, Mrs. Schumacher, and Mrs. Rivett-Robb.
Virtual Curriculum Night Postponed
It has been decided to postpone Curriculum Night until after Thanksgiving. Date TBD. Many teachers have or continue to reach out to parents to make introductory phone calls/emails. Do not hesitate to reach out to our teachers/DECEs should you require information. Staff emails can be found on our website under the Contact tab -> Staff Directory. (The Board has not yet updated school websites to reflect the changes in grade assignments, but all of our staff emails are listed correctly.)
We had asked that all forms be returned to the Office by Friday, September 25th. If your forms are still outstanding, please make sure that they are returned no later than Monday, September 28th.
Next PD Day
School Agendas incorrectly list a PD Day on Friday, October 9th. Please disregard this date. School agendas were printed prior to the summer’s changes to the school year calendar. The next PD Day will be on November 27th for Parent Interviews.
