Calling for Parent Volunteers to Sit on the Milton Secondary School Boundary Review!

At a recent Board Meeting, Trustees approved a motion to proceed with a Milton Secondary School Boundary Review that will involve all Catholic schools in Milton.

Why Do We Need a School Boundary Review in Milton?

The Halton Catholic District School Board has submitted an application to the Ministry of Education for funding to build a third Catholic secondary school in Milton in order to meet the growing needs in our community.

This infographic explains the urgent need for a third secondary school in Milton –

As the infographic shows, the school is needed by September 2021, but the earliest anticipated opening of the new school, contingent on Ministry approval, would be September, 2022. This means we will need a temporary plan in place to accommodate students until the new secondary school has been built.

A School Boundary Review in Milton will help us define the school attendance boundary for the future Milton secondary school, as well as identify a temporary accommodation plan for the 2021-2022 school year.

School Boundary Review Committee (SBRC)

The first step in this review involves establishing a School Boundary Review Committee (SBRC) made up of parents and Board staff. The role of the SBRC is to gather and share information about the review with their school communities.

SBRC Composition and Time Commitment

Each of the school communities in Milton have been asked to provide two parent representatives to serve as members of the SBRC.

The Board is hoping to have representation on the SBRC from one member of our Catholic School Council, as well as one parent who does not sit on the Catholic School Council.

The SBRC will meet several times throughout the review process. The meetings will occur during weekday evenings, and may last anywhere between 2-3 hours. A number of meetings have already been established, with the first (orientation) meeting taking place on Wednesday, January 29, 2019.

In addition to attending all SBRC meetings, SBRC members are also required to attend the public consultation meetings which will take place throughout the process.

Interested in Being a Parent Rep on the Milton SBRC?

If you are interested in serving on the SBRC, please let the School Principal, Chris Hawken, know by Thursday, January 9, 2020.
