This year we will be having a Halloween Dance-a-thon/ Spirit Day in which all of our students & staff are invited to wear their Halloween Costume or Wear Orange & Black. Students will have an opportunity to dance outside, in cohorts, weather pending. If it rains, classes will hold their Dance-a-thon in their classroom. Staff are also planning special activities for ALL of our students and our day will end with a school wide game of Halloween Bingo via teams~ complete with prizes!

The classes that raise the most amount of money collectively in their division (1 KDG class,1 Primary Class, 1 Junior Class & 1 Intermediate Class) will have a class pizza party to acknowledge their efforts!

Our goal is to have 100% of our families participate in our fundraiser!  Last year, we were able to raise close to $6,000. We are hoping that we can meet or surpass this goal, however we appreciate that each of our families may have different financial circumstances~ ANY donation amount is welcome! Even the smallest donation makes a difference and all donation amounts are confidential.  Please note that tax receipts are issued for donations of $25 or more.

Donating is easy! Simply login to your School Cash Online Account:

2. At the top right-hand corner, click on items, then select “Make a Donation”

3. Under “Fund Destination” please ensure you select Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School.

The deadline for donations is Friday, November 5th. Please donate today!

Please remember, Halloween is a great time to dress up and have fun with costumes. In our Catholic education community, we want to promote respect, inclusion and empathy for all individuals. As students and staff select Halloween costumes, we encourage everyone to reflect critically, be mindful of cultural appropriation and create welcoming school environments for all.

The following are suggested questions to reflect on when choosing a costume to avoid being

disrespectful or offensive:

  • Is my costume making fun of a group of people, their culture or religion?
  • Does my costume reinforce jokes and stereotypes about certain groups, cultures or religions?
  • Am I altering my skin color, facial/body features to make it darker or like a particular race, ethnicity,
  • or cultural group?
  • Am I dressing up as a culture or borrowing from a religion that is not my own or is not part of my background?
  • Do I understand and respect the history or tradition of the culture that I am borrowing my costume from?

*PLEASE NOTE: students will not be allowed to bring any props that resemble weapons or wear face coverings. All students should be wearing their face masks, as directed by Public Health and our Board.

Thank you parents for your support for ensuring that your child’s costume is appropriate for school!

Pizza Days will be returning!

Promoting Well-Being:Taking Care of your Mental Health

October 2021 Special Edition Newsletter

Find someone you trust, such as family, friends, coaches or teachers, and tell them how you feel. It is important to be open about your feelings.

Make time to take care of yourself, take breaks and do fun and relaxing things. It can be helpful to try to treat yourself the way you would treat a friend. What would you tell or suggest to a friend who was feeling the same way as you?

If you are having trouble with high levels of stress, worries or sadness, talk to your medical team about helping you find someone who can help. This can be a psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker or another mental health professional. There are people who specialize in helping children and teens living with a chronic condition.

Please follow us @CMartyrsHCDSB, to view learning in our community as well as some great community and parent information!
