Daily Self Screening:

All staff and students must self-screen every day before attending school. The province will continue to provide a screening tool for use by all school boards and may update this throughout the school year. All staff and students who are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 as identified in the screening tool, must not attend school and should follow the guidance provided in the screening tool, which may include seeking appropriate medical attention as required, and/or getting tested for COVID-19.

Parents will be required to provide Confirmation of Daily COVID-19 Screening for their child beginning September 7th to September 17th. A Student Screening Log will be stapled into the front of your child’s agenda for your verify their screening~ please continue to sign off on this each morning before sending your child to school.

Parent Consent Forms

Beginning this year, we will be collecting this information electronically, and are asking parents/guardians to complete the form online.

Complete the Family Information/Consent Electronic Form!

Parents are asked to complete the form, which may be accessed HERE. The form should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

If you already submitted a consent form, no further action is required.

Important Notes Before Completing the Form:

If you have more than one child enrolled in an HCDSB school, please complete a separate form for each child.

Only one parent/guardian is required to complete a form for each child.

You will need your child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to submit this form. The OEN can be found on a recent report card.

Please ensure you are submitting your child’s preferred name or the name you provided at registration.

The form can be completed using a computer, smart phone, or tablet.

Drop-off and Pick-up 

Only one parent or guardian will be permitted on school property to drop off and pick up children. Parents and guardians are asked to remain off the school yard as our students start and end their day. At this time, parents will not be permitted to enter the school (unless there is an extenuating need, and prior approval has been obtained as per the Visitor Protocol). 

Morning Yard Supervision begins at 8:45 am. For the safety of your children we request that your child NOT be on school property until a supervisor is on duty. Children arriving late for school must first report to the office using Door 1.

  • KDG students will enter the KDG gate and go directly to their classroom @8:40am
  • Gr. 1-3 students should be in their line with their class at 8:55 am.
  • Gr. 4-8 students will enter Door 2 beginning at 8:45am.
  • Bus students will enter Door 1 upon arrival and go directly to their class.

Please note, our warning bell rings at 8:55am and our day starts promptly at 9:00am.

School Parking Lot

Please be advised, that the main entrance is for bus pick up and drop off only. We ask parents/caregivers to use the north parking lot only (closest to KDG area.) for dropping off and picking up students. If your child needs assistance in and out of the car, please park your car in a parking space and then walk your child through the parking lot.

We would ask that the south parking lot ( along the fenced sidewalk to MacMillan) be used for staff only. During “pick up and drop off” for arrival and dismissal, we ask all parents/caregivers to be mindful of our students’ safety and to remain behind the gate and do not enter the playground area. Thank you for your attention & cooperation with this matter!

Please consider walking your child if possible, the first few weeks of school are typically very busy in all school parking lots. We would ask for your patience & smiles as we all begin a new and very different school year.

Dogs are not permitted on School Property:

Though we love our four-legged friends, some of our children have severe allergies and are frightened by an encounter with a dog. Our school board prohibits dogs on school property for the protection of your children as well as for the protection of your pet.

Please be advised that from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm our students may be out and about with the YMCA and after-school activities in the yard, so we ask your cooperation in not walking your dog through the property during these hours.

Need to Contact your child’s teacher?

The staff of Canadian Martyrs will be reaching out to parents in the next week, if they have not already done so. If you wish to speak to your child’s teacher an appointment is necessary. The classroom teachers’ first responsibility is the teaching of the children during the regular school hours. Please leave a voice mail message for your child’s teacher and they will return your call in a timely manner ~ within 48 hours.

School Communication

We will provide a weekly update, which will be posted to the school website and the link will be tweeted out. The website will be updated frequently, including the NEWS page, where we will share information and coming events. You can subscribe to the calendar on the website so notifications can be received as dates are added.

Safe and Caring School

School staff will review the school routines and expectations with your child. Please know that these expectations are to help keep everyone safe and learning at Canadian Martyrs Catholic School. The Code of Conduct is in the front of the student agenda for gr. 1-8. We would ask you to review and discuss this with your child(ren) during the first week of school. Safe School Divisional Virtual Assemblies will be as follows:

  • Intermediate (Gr. 7& 8) Assembly Wednesday, September 15th @ 11:00am
  • Junior (Gr. 4-6) Assembly Wednesday, September 15th @1pm
  • Primary ( Gr. 1-3) Assembly Thursday, September 16th @ 10 am

School Communication

We will provide a Weekly Update, which will be posted to the school website and the link will be emailed each Sunday evening. The website will be updated frequently, including the Announcements page, where we will share good news stories. The calendar on the website can be subscribed to, so notifications can be received as dates are added.

Catholic School Council Nominations- PLEASE SEE THE REVISED DATES & INFORMATION

Role of Catholic School Council:  Ontario Regulation 612 states that every school must hold elections for the School Council within the first 30 days of each school year. The term of office is one year.  We want to encourage every parent to consider volunteering to sit on the Catholic School Council this year.  The school needs active and interested parents to maintain the quality of the school community we enjoy and to address the challenges the community will face in the future. Please email cronin-nowitskyl@hcdsb.org and a nomination package will be sent to you electronically on Wednesday, September 15th.

If Elections are required, then the names of candidates and a one-page information biography sheet, if available, will be posted on our school website. This year, if required, elections for our 2021/2022 Catholic School Council will take place in September according to the following REVISED timelines:

Nomination Forms Due: Friday September 24th

Profiles Due (if required): Tuesday September 28th

Council Elections (if needed): Thursday September 30th

First Council Meeting:  Monday October 4th at 6:30 pm

Meetings will be held “virtually” (using Teams). Dates & times will be posted on our school web page.  All parents are welcome to attend regular Council meetings.  Meeting dates will be posted on our school web page.  The meetings will begin at 6:30 pm, virtually via Teams.

Medical Perils

Please ensure you have returned the necessary medication & forms for any medical perils (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc.) to the office along with any updated information for our files. We are aware that Allerject is now available in Canada, and if this your choice of auto injectors please indicate this on the Student Plan of Care.

Please be aware that Canadian Martyrs CES strives to be a nut free environment. We have students with life threatening allergies to nuts and other allergens. No peanut butter or other nut products are allowed. Please check labels before sending items in school lunches and for snacks. Even a trace of nut oil from one child’s fingers to a desk surface can cause a deadly reaction. Please note that Wow Butter (soy product) is not allowed as we cannot distinguish between it and peanut butter. Your support and attention to this matter is greatly appreciated as we have many students with life threatening allergies.  

Concussion Protocol

Recent research shows that a concussion can have very serious implications on a child`s cognitive and physical abilities. Parents and guardians are reminded that a comprehensive protocol, based on current research and best practices, has been developed to help parents, students, and staff prevent, recognize, and respond to a concussion. Student Accident Insurance

We all know that accidents can, and do, happen. While your provincial coverage or your employee benefits plan may cover some medical, dental or other expenses related to these accidents, they may not cover all of them. Student Accident Insurance helps to protect your family from these unexpected costs if your child is injured on school property or during school-sponsored activities.

Since the Halton Catholic District School Board does not offer student accident insurance, you, as a parent/guardian, have the option to buy this coverage for your child or children. While participation is voluntary, it is highly recommended. All students, up to 26 years of age, are accepted.

Coverage is available in three affordable plan options, for as low as $13/year (that’s just over 3 cents a day!) in Lite, Plus and Premium. Benefits include:

  • Dental treatment
  • Damage to eyeglasses or contact lenses
  • Ambulance transportation
  • Braces, casts, crutches, hearing aids, prosthetics and splints
  • Counselling, physiotherapy and tutoring
  • Prescription drugs
  • Accidental death, total and permanent disability
  • NEW! Hospital cash allowance for costs associated with extended hospital stays such as parking, television or Wi-Fi in your room, parking, cafeteria meals or babysitting expenses for family members.

Discounts are available for families with 3 or more children, with additional savings for multi-year plans of three and five years when buying online.
