Burlington Public Library – Summer Reading Programs
Hello from Burlington Public Library (BPL)! Summer is fast approaching, and that means Summer Reading Club is just around the corner! As partners in supporting the growth and development of Burlington’s children, staff from New Appleby branch is visiting on Wednesday June 12 to share info about the Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Club (SRC) school visits promote participation in SRC and build excitement about reading over the summer months, which is so important for continued school success in the Fall. Our staff will share some fun read-alouds, talk about the public library, and encourage everyone to make SRC a part of their summer vacation!
Our ECO Club would kindly request your support with the following initiative:
Clean out your closets and #DontTrashTech! Join Ontario EcoSchools, eCycle Solutions, and Best Buy Canada in the reduction of e-waste in our community.Millions of pounds of electronic waste go to landfills each year when they could be recycled. Electronics often contain toxic chemicals like lead, cadmium, and mercury. When you throw them away, they end upin landfill sites and those poisons can end up in the environment.
EcoSchools, Best Buy Canada and their secure, trusted recycling partner eCycle Solutions are running a campaign that provides a free, convenient and secure way for you to recycle your unwanted electronics. Schools in your community are invited to bring their unwanted electronics to their nearest participating Best Buy store between May 24th and June 2nd for FREE secure recycling.
How it works:
- Bring your unwanted electronics to your nearest participating Best Buy store (1200 Brant St Unit 1, Burlington, ON L7P 5C6 ) between May 24th and June 2nd – ask your friends, neighbours and family members if they have any electronics they’d like recycled.
- When dropping off your item(s), have a Best Buy employee give you a ballot for each item you drop off.
- Bring your ballots back to your school to collect and submit into the draw.
- $2,500 Best Buy gift card to the school that has the highest average number of items dropped off based on student enrollment (i.e. 350 students and 920 items received = 2.63 avg.)
- $500 Best Buy gift card awarded to one student through a draw of the ballots collected – the more items you drop off, the more chances you have to win!
Let’s ensure we do our part and put e-waste in its place.
Thank you for your support ~ Canadian Martyrs Eco Club!
